Jets Believe They Can Win With Current Receivers
Jets offensive coordinator Brian Scottenheimer believes that the team can win with their current group of wide receivers.
"I think we can win with these guys," Scottenheimer told Newsday. "Everybody is going to look at our wide receivers and say that we don?t have a big name. I still think and feel that Jerricho [Cotchery] is a big name. But I think we are going to have a really solid group and we?re pretty deep. We are going to ask these guys to do things that they do very well. David Clowney is extremely fast. But if you turn on film and you watch it, he?s done a hell of a job in the running game, blocking."
The Jets have been mentioned in rumors involving a number of wide receivers, including Brandon Marshall.
Teammate: Sanchez Doesn't Have To Do It Himself
Mark Sanchez's teammates are ready to back the rookie quarterback.
The Jets named Sanchez their starting quarterback earlier this week.
"I think he understands that he doesn't have to win it," right tackle Damien Woody told the Associated Press. "He shouldn't feel that way. We have enough good parts around us where all he really needs to do is not mess it up and make a couple of plays here and there, just grow on the job."
Woody wasn't the only supportive teammate.
"Having a young guy like Sanchez in there, having the O-line we've got and the Pro Bowl-caliber running backs we have in the backfield is a heck of a complement," running back Leon Washington said. "We look forward to helping him out, just like we look forward to him helping us out."
Sanchez is slated to make his regular-season debut at Houston on Sept. 13.
"I think any quarterback would feel good about having those guys in front of him and those backs behind him," offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said. "Not only good players, but there's a lot of experience there. That's something we feel gives us the ability to have a stable attack, still be balanced but yet we know when we need to run the ball, we can run the football. We obviously still feel comfortable that we'll be able to throw the football when we need to as well."
Ravens, Jets Circle Around Philly's Surplus Of Receivers
The Ravens and Jets are both interested in acquiring a receiver from the Eagles, who have a surplus of options.
Reggie Brown is the most likely option to leave Philadelphia.
Sanchez Named Jets Starting Quarterback
The Jets have named rookie Mark Sanchez their starting quarterback, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
"At roughly 8 am this morning, Rex Ryan told Jets QBs he is going with Mark Sanchez as his new starter. One QB battle done, onto the others," Schefter wrote on his Twitter page Wednesday morning.
Washington, Jets Still At Odds Over Extension
The Jets and running back Leon Washington are still at odds over a long-term contract.
The team is trying to ink Washington to an extension, but general manager Mike Tannenbaum said Tuesday on WFAN radio that "nothing is imminent."
The New York Daily News reported that the two sides haven't spoken in two weeks.
The Jets have an offer on the table that includes about $10 million in guarantees.
Scott: Rex Ryan Was Always 'Head Coach' Of Ravens
Bart Scott, who left the Ravens for the Jets this offseason, knocked Baltimore coach John Harbaugh recently.
The linebacker claims that new Jets coach Rex Ryan, formerly the defensive coordinator with the Ravens, ran the team.
"He was always the head coach," Scott told the Carroll County Times in reference to Rex Ryan's tenure in Baltimore. "He was the head coach of that football team last year, whether you guys know it or not. He kept that team together. The defense leads that team over there, and he controls that defense."

Few insiders know the NFL better than RealGM's Jeff Risdon, who is 21 teams into his team-by-team season previews.
Click on the links below for the most in depth and readable previews anywhere.
- Oakland Raiders
The Raiders are a tough cloud to forecast. There is a great deal of potential here on defense and with JaMarcus Russell and the running backs, but it's tough to give them the benefit of doubt until they prove it.
- New York Giants
The Giants have some question marks on offense, but their defense has the potential to be special.
- Cincinnati Bengals
The return of Carson Palmer and upgrades to the OL should fix the offense, but there are still legit questions. The defense is loaded with young talent, but it must continue to develop and make plays.
- Indianapolis Colts
If it wasn't for Peyton Manning, the Colts would have a difficult time dealing with an overhauled coaching staff and the loss of Marvin Harrison.
- Philadelphia Eagles
Many are high on the Eagles heading into the season, but Jeff points out that a lot will have to fall in place for them to piece together another playoff run.
- Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs are in the middle of a massive rebuild, and they may regret getting rid of Tony Gonzalez.
- San Diego Chargers
If their injured stars are healthy, the AFC road to Miami will probably go through San Diego.
- Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons are for real, but a tough schedule could keep them from making their second consecutive playoff appearance.
- New York Jets
The 2009 season might not go as planned, but the future is bright for the Jets with Mark Sanchez at quarterback.
- Seattle Seahawks
There are a lot of question marks regarding Seattle's health and depth on the offensive line, but a return to the playoffs is possible.
- New Orleans Saints
Reggie Bush isn't going to be the running back many want him to be, but he's still one of the most dangerous players in the game.

The Jets had hoped to name a starting quarterback following Monday's preseason game against the Ravens, but coach Rex Ryan still hasn't decided.
"Right now, as of this moment, I'm not ready to make that decision yet," Ryan told the New York Daily News.
"Did I expect Mark Sanchez or Kellen Clemens to go out and light it up against this defense? No," Ryan added. "I knew it would be tough, but I don't think you're going to get tougher than what you just saw."
