Jets Won't Consider Trading David Harris

Oct 31, 2014 6:09 AM

David Harris has become a key part of the Jets' linebacker corps since Jonathan Vilma was injured in Week 7 in 2007 and the club hopes to keep him for a long time to come. ??There?s no question that he?s a Pro Bowl player,?? Jets coach Rex Ryan said. ??You guys (the media) always say he?s mentioned in trade deals. That?s one guy I promise isn?t going to be in any trade.?? On Sunday, Harris showed why he?s an untouchable as he had five tackles, a sack and an interception in the Jets? 24-17 victory over the Titans. Both his interception and sack came in the fourth quarter and helped seal the game. ??They were momentum shifters,?? fellow inside linebacker Bart Scott said.

Jets WR Was Benched Due To Tweets

Oct 10, 2014 9:47 AM

Jets wide receiver David Clowney was benched for Sunday's game against the Titans due to some controversial Tweets. New York head coach Rex Ryan was upset that Clowney complained about a lack of playing time on his Twitter page. "I was upset with him, yep," Ryan told the Associated Press. "For a couple of reasons. One of them is you'll hear things if a guy's unhappy or whatever. I'm not a big Twitter guy, but you hear different things. To me, this is about our team and understanding this is about our team. No individual is bigger than the team." Shortly after New York's Week 2 win over New England, Clowney posted the following on his page: "1 play in the 1st Half, 4 plays in the 2nd half ... A bit disappointed about my playing time but very happy and satisfied about the win."

Oct 9, 2014 5:26 PM

Jets coach Rex Ryan believes that the team's fans played a huge role in their victory over the Patriots on Sunday. Ryan told the press that he is going to put a game ball into the team's trophy case for the fans. "I thought they were the difference," Ryan told the Associated Press. The first-year head coach left a voice message for the team's season ticket holders prior to the Week 2 matchup asking for their full support against New England.

Oct 31, 2014 4:48 AM

The 49ers have reportedly filed tampering charges against the Jets involving first-round pick Michael Crabtree. The Jets are denying the allegations. San Francisco is stuck in a standoff with Crabtree, who remains unsigned as he looks for more money. The New York Daily News, which reported the charges, didn't reveal any specifics.

RealGM's Week 2 Rundown

Sep 30, 2014 11:34 PM

There were a number of upsets, and near upsets, in Week 2 of the NFL season. In addition to some victories for David over Goliath, we saw a host of excellent individual performances in football?s second weekend. We will also calculate each team?s Trench Counter*. Washington 9, St. Louis 7 Team Trench Counter: Redskins +4.7, Rams-4.7 The Washington Redskins (1-1) didn?t score a touchdown at FedEx Field, but were still able to defeat the St. Louis Rams (0-2) thanks to a strong defensive performance. Jason Campbell went 23-for-35 with 242 yards, while Clinton Portis led the team on the ground with 79 yards on twelve carries. Chris Cooley led the Redskins in receiving with 7 grabs for 83 yards. Washington held St. Louis to fewer than 250 total yards, limiting Marc Bulger to 125 yards and a touchdown on 15-for-28 passing. Steven Jackson was the game?s offensive star, rushing for 107 yards on seventeen carries, while Laurent Robinson scored the afternoon?s only touchdown. Both Bulger and Campbell were sacked just once in a game that featured six punts. Houston 34, Tennessee 31 Team Trench Counter: Texans -0.8, Titans +0.8 After falling behind 21-7 in the second quarter, the Houston Texans (1-1) surged back to keep the Tennessee Titans (0-2) from notching their first win of the season. Matt Schaub and the Texans offense exploded as the quarterback went 25-for-39 with 357 yards and four touchdowns. Andre Johnson caught 10 of those passes for 149 yards and two scores. Steve Slaton was held in check by Tennessee?s defense, but Kris Brown?s 23-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter was enough for Houston to complete their comeback. Kerry Collins went 21-for-33 with 216 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the loss. Chris Johnson was close to dominant through three quarters, but Houston limited him over the game?s final fifteen minutes. The second-year running back had 197 yards and two touchdowns on 16 rushing attempts, while also hauling in nine passes for 87 yards and another score. If the Titans lose to the Jets next Sunday they?ll have matched their 2008 loss total (3) in as many weeks. New Orleans 48, Philadelphia 22 Team Trench Counter: Saints +14.3, Eagles -14.3 The New Orleans Saints (2-0) put up more than forty points for the second straight week as they drilled the Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) at Lincoln Financial Field. Drew Brees went 25-for-34 with 311 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. His touchdown total was just half of what he accomplished against the Lions in Week 1, but it was more than enough. Mike Bell and Reggie Bush combined to rush for 119 yards and two touchdowns in the win and Marques Colston led New Orleans in receiving with 8 catches for 98 yards and two scores. The Philadelphia defense, which was dominant against the Panthers last week, struggled mightily. They sacked Brees just twice, while allowing 421 total yards. Kevin Kolb was respectable in his first NFL start for the Eagles, going 31-for-51 with 391 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. However, the team made several costly mistakes. Ellis Hobbs fumbled on the opening kickoff of the second half, allowing the Saints to take control of the game. Leading 17-13 after 30 minutes, New Orleans outscored the home team 31-9 in the third and fourth quarters. N.Y. Jets 16, New England 9 Team Trench Counter: Jets +3.8, Patriots -3.8 The New York Jets (2-0) scored the first takedown in their renewed rivalry with the New England Patriots (1-1) on Sunday. Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez went 14-for-22 with 163 yards and one touchdown in the victory at Giants Stadium. Leon Washington and Thomas Jones helped make things easier for Sanchez as they combined to rush for 112 yards on 28 carries. Trailing 9-3, Sanchez connected with Dustin Keller on a 9-yard touchdown pass on the first drive of the second half to put the Jets ahead for good. The Patriots settled for just three field goals on the afternoon as New York?s defense kept their high-scoring offense out of the end zone. Tom Brady went 23-for-47 with 216 yards and an interception. Julian Edelman led New England in receiving yards as he emerged as Brady?s top target in Week 2. With Wes Welker out, the rookie caught 8 passes for 98 yards in the loss. Oakland 13, Kansas City 10 Team Trench Counter: Raiders -7.3, Chiefs +7.3 JaMarcus Russell was ineffective for a majority of the game, but led the Oakland Raiders (1-1) on a game-winning drive against the Kansas City Chiefs (0-2) at Arrowhead Stadium. Russell was just 7-for-24 on the afternoon, but led the Oakland offense down the field late in the fourth quarter to set up Darren McFadden?s game-winning 5-yard touchdown run with just 1:07 minutes remaining in regulation. Matt Cassel made his Kansas City debut, going 24-for-39 with 241 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Cassel hooked up with Dwayne Bowe on a 29-yard touchdown to give the Chiefs a 10-6 lead with less than three minutes remaining. However, the score turned out to come too quickly as the Raiders had time to complete a last-minute comeback. Arizona 31, Jacksonville 17 Team Trench Counter: Cardinals +6.5, Jaguars -6.5 The Arizona Cardinals (1-1) opened up an early lead against the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) on Sunday and never looked back at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Kurt Warner went 24-for-26 with 243 yards and two touchdowns before giving way to Matt Leinart in the second half. Warner finished the game with an NFL record 92.3 completion percentage. Tim Hightower had 72 yards and a touchdown, and cornerback Antrel Rolle scored an 83-yard touchdown on a blocked field goal in the second quarter. David Garrard, who led the Jaguars on two second-half touchdown drives when the game?s outcome was already decided, was 23-for-43 with 282 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on the afternoon. In addition to the interception, Garrard lost a fumble (as did two other Jaguars). Mike Sims-Walker was Jacksonville?s offense star, grabbing 6 catches for 106 yards and a score. Arizona held Maurice Jones-Drew to 83 total yards. Cincinnati 31, Green Bay 24 Team Trench Counter: Bengals -4.2, Packers +4.2 The Cincinnati Bengals (1-1) stunned the Green Bay Packers (1-1) at Lambeau Field. Carson Palmer threw two interceptions, but finished 15-for-23 with 185 yards and three touchdowns. Cedric Benson was the star of the game for Cincinnati. He rushed for 141 yards on 29 carries against Green Bay, often putting the Bengals in prime field position. Chad Ochocinco, who promised to perform a Lambeau Leap if he reached the end zone, accomplished the feat in the third quarter. Aaron Rodgers went 21-for-39 with 261 yards and a touchdown, but the Packers struggled on the ground. Ryan Grant scored on a 4-yard run in the first quarter, but he tallied just 46 yards on 14 attempts. Charles Woodson intercepted Palmer twice, including one for a touchdown in the second period, but Green Bay?s offense couldn?t take advantage of Cincinnati?s inexperienced defense. Greg Jennings, Rodgers? favorite target, failed to record a reception as he played through a wrist injury. Minnesota 27, Detroit 13 Team Trench Counter: Vikings +9.1, Lions -9.1 The Detroit Lions (0-2) jumped out to an early 10-0 lead, but the Minnesota Vikings (2-0) bounced back win comfortably. Brett Favre went 23-for-27 with 155 yards and two touchdowns and Adrian Peterson ran for 92 yards and a score on 15 attempts at Ford Field. Favre spread the ball around nicely, connecting with five different receivers on three or more occasions. The Vikings scored 27 consecutive points after failing behind in the second quarter. Rookie quarterback Matt Stafford threw his first touchdown pass, an 8-yard strike to Calvin Johnson, but finished 18-for-30 with 152 yards, one score and two interceptions. Kevin Smith rushed for 83 yards on 24 carries in the loss, while also losing a fumble. Detroit?s defense got to Favre three times, but couldn?t withstand Minnesota?s 27-0 run over the second, third and fourth quarters. Atlanta 28, Carolina 20 Team Trench Counter: Falcons -2.6, Panthers +2.6 Matt Ryan led the Atlanta Falcons (2-0) past the Carolina Panthers (0-2) in a close game at the Georgia Dome. The second-year quarterback went 21-for-27 with 220 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, while Michael Turner ran for 105 yards and a score in the victory. Ryan connected with Tony Gonzalez (7 catches for 71 yards), Roddy White (6 catches for 53 yards) and Jason Snelling (one catch for 10 yards) for scores as the Falcons kept pace with the Saints in the NFC South. Jake Delhomme wasn?t as bad as we?ve come to expect, going 25-for-41 with 308 yards, one touchdown and an interception. DeAngelo Williams (79 yards and a touchdown) and Jonathan Stewart (65 yards on nine carries) helped keep some of the pressure off their quarterback. Steve Smith led Carolina in receiving with 131 yards on 8 receptions. San Francisco 23, Seattle 10 Team Trench Counter: 49ers +10.5, Seahawks -10.5 The San Francisco 49ers (2-0) knocked Matt Hasselbeck out of the game and then polished off the Seattle Seahawks (1-1) at Candlestick Park. Shaun Hill went 19-for-26 with 144 yards as Frank Gore rushed for 207 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Gore broke off scoring runs of 79 yards (the first quarter) and 80 yards (the third quarter) in the victory. The running back also led the team in receiving with 39 yards on five receptions. Hasselbeck went 10-for-18 with 97 yards before leaving with a rib injury. Seneca Wallace took over at quarterback for the Seahawks, tallying 127 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Seattle got almost no production from their running backs as they had just 66 yards on 23 carries on the road. Buffalo 33, Tampa Bay 20 Team Trench Counter: Bills +17.5, Buccaneers -17.5 The Buffalo Bills (1-1) jumped out to a 17-0 lead and held off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-2) in the second half. Fred Jackson dominated, perhaps giving himself a shot to continue starting at running back even upon Marshawn Lynch?s return from suspension. Jackson had 163 rushing yards on 28 carries, while also catching 6 passes for 25 yards. Trent Edwards threw for 230 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Terrell Owens found the end zone for the first time as a member of the Bills in the fourth quarter on a 43-yard reception. Trailing early, Byron Leftwich attempted 50 passes. He finished with 296 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Because of that, Cadillac Williams and Derrick Ward rushed for just 48 yards on 11 carries. Leftwich?s leading receiver was tight end Kellen Winslow, who caught seven passes for 90 yards and a score. Baltimore 31, San Diego 26 Team Trench Counter: Ravens +6.6, Chargers -6.6 The Baltimore Ravens (2-0) are proving to be an offensive powerhouse, but it was their defense that kept the San Diego Chargers (1-1) from completing a late-game comeback. Joe Flacco had 190 yards, two touchdowns and one interception as Willis McGahee found the end zone twice on 15 rushes for 79 yards. Kelley Washington led Baltimore with four catches for 58 yards and a touchdown, and linebacker Ray Lewis sealed the victory by tackling Darren Sproles on fourth down with under a minute remaining. Philip Rivers went 25-for-45 with 436 yards, two touchdowns and two costly interceptions. Without LaDainian Tomlinson (ankle), the Chargers struggled to run the ball effectively. Sproles, Michael Bennett and Jacob Hester had 48 yards on 16 carries, forcing Rivers to throw the ball on most downs at Qualcomm Stadium. Denver 27, Cleveland 6 Team Trench Counter: Broncos +20.9, Browns -20.9 The Denver Broncos (2-0) took the lead on a 2-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Orton to tight end Tony Scheffler midway through the first quarter and never looked back against the Cleveland Browns (0-2). Orton finished the afternoon with 263 yards and Denver?s stable of running backs enjoyed productive performances. Correll Buckhalter rushed 9 times for 76 yards and a touchdown and rookie Knowshon Moreno had 75 yards on 17 carries on Sunday. Brady Quinn went 18-for-31 with 161 yards and an interception, while Jamal Lewis struggled to get Cleveland?s ground game going. Lewis had 38 yards on 14 carries in a game where the Browns had just 200 total yards. Braylon Edwards, who hauled in six passes for 92 yards, was the only star for the road team. Chicago 17, Pittsburgh 14 Team Trench Counter: Bears -4.0, Steelers +4.0 Jay Cutler bounced back from his horrible debut to lead the Chicago Bears (1-1) to a big victory over the defending-champion Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1). After throwing four interceptions against the Packers in Week 1, Cutler went 27-for-38 with 236 yards and two touchdowns at Solider Field. Matt Forte was held to just 29 yards on 13 carries, but Cutler was still able to move the ball through the air. Rookie Johnny Knox was Chicago?s lead receiver with six catches for 70 yards and a touchdown. Robbie Gould hit a 44-yard field goal with 15 seconds left to give the Bears the victory. Ben Roethlisberger scored on a 2-yard run in the third to put the Steelers in control, but finished the game with just 221 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Willie Parker was slightly more productive than he was in Week 1 against the Titans, rushing for 47 yards on 14 carries, but the former rushing champion still struggled. Santonio Holmes led Pittsburgh in receiving with five catches for 83 yards in the loss. N.Y Giants 33, Dallas 31 Team Trench Counter: Giants +7.6, Cowboys -7.6 The New York Giants (2-0) defeated the Dallas Cowboys (1-1) in the opener at the new billion-dollar Cowboys Stadium on Sunday night. Eli Manning led the Giants downfield on a masterful game-winning drive, which resulted in a 37-yard field goal that Lawrence Tynes had to hit twice thanks to a well-planned time out by Dallas coach Wade Phillips. Manning went 25-for-38 with 330 yards and two touchdowns. His leading receiver was Mario Manningham, who enjoyed a prime-time coming out party with 10 catches for 150 yards and a touchdown. Tony Romo struggled against New York's defense, passing for just 127 yards while tossing one touchdown and three interceptions. Marion Barber (124 yards and a score) and Felix Jones (96 yards and a score) excelled on the ground, but Romo ended several drives with not only his interceptions but other miscues as well. Dallas led 27-20 entering the fourth quarter, but New York outscored the home team 17-7 over the final 15 minutes. *Explaining The Trench Counter

Rhodes Rips Harrison Via Twitter

Oct 31, 2014 4:47 AM

Jets safety Kerry Rhodes ripped former Patriots defender Rodney Harrison on Saturday. Rhodes responded to comments made by Harrison on Friday. "I respect Kerry Rhodes as a playmaker but he's not a tough guy," Harrison said on Michael Kay's radio show on ESPN-1050. "OK, I've seen him turn down tackles many a time. As far as him talking about them wanting to embarrass us, I can understand that. But let's stay a little humble. Because when you start talking like that you really set yourself up to put all the pressure (on the Jets)." Rhodes tweeted, "I'm detecting a lil jealousy from (Harrison) he must wish he was playing 2morrow. My talent outweighs his ask Belichick."

Rhodes: Jets Want To 'Embarrass' Patriots

Oct 31, 2014 8:52 AM

Jets safety Kerry Rhodes has raised eyebrows by saying that he wants to "embarrass" the Patriots this Sunday. New England is 13-6 against New York since Bill Belichick became the team's head coach in 2000. "You go out from the first quarter on, from the first play on, and try to embarrass them," Rhodes told the New York Daily News. "Not just go out there and try to win, try to embarrass them. Try to make them feel bad when they leave here. We don't want to just beat them. We want to send a message to them, 'We're not backing down from you and we expect to win this game, and it's not going to be luck, it's not going to be a mistake.' "

Risdon's Picks For Week 2

Jul 28, 2014 8:11 AM

A crazy Week 1 is in the books. Incredible comeback finishes abounded, a nice sating of our ravenous appetite for real football! Week 2 is always an interesting slate of games to forecast. Some cloud formations have changed after surprising kickoff games, both positively and negatively. The trick is to figure out which are ground clutter that will quickly pass off the radar and which are convection storms brewing. After a strong opening week forecast of 12-4, all the 500-millibar charts are pretty clear, but there is always the chance for an altered jet stream late in the week that turns that ubiquitous ?30% chance of rain? into needing a canoe to get your mail. Game of the Week New York Giants at Dallas: Jerry Jones gets to open his own private Taj Majal in prime time against the hated Giants. I keep vacillating between two schools of thought on this one. Part of me believes the emotion and team pride from breaking in the new stadium will carry the Cowboys. The other side of that coin is that there?s huge pressure on Tony Romo & Co. to not spill red wine all over the white Berber carpet. That hasn?t exactly been a strong suit for recent vintages in Dallas, and the Giants defense has a way of making even the steadiest hands wobble. I wouldn?t touch this game with any sort of monetary risk, but if you?re so compelled, I like the new stadium smell. Dallas 24, New York 20. Warm and sunny games New Orleans at Philadelphia: Two teams coming off blowout wins meet in a potential playoff-seeding derby. With McNabb almost certainly out, that leaves it to Kevin Kolb to try and beat an improved Saints secondary and outscore a New Orleans offense that was clearly in midseason form in their devastation of Detroit. I liked enough of what I saw from the Saints? OL and DL to believe they can handle the degree of difficulty jump from the Lions to the Eagles, even though Carolina?s OL is among the best and Philly treated them like a turnstile. Drew Brees can handle the pressure that Jake Delhomme & Co. could not. I liked the Saints 3-man defensive front, a nice in-game change of pace that will keep Kolb guessing. New Orleans gets an impressive belt-notching road win. Saints 33, Eagles 27. Indianapolis at Miami: It must be scary for Miami fans to know that the Colts didn?t play very well in their opener but still found a way to beat a decent Jaguars team. Miami was flat and ineffective on both sides of the ball, and it doesn?t get easier for Jake Long, going from John Abraham to Dwight Freeney. The short zone shell the Colts deploy against the pass creates problems for Chad Pennington, and the Wildcat appears declawed. These two have a history of getting into unexpected shootouts, and that could happen here if the Dolphins get an early lead. When you find yourself choosing sides in a shootout, go with the bigger gun and higher-caliber bullets. Colts 37, Dolphins 31. Baltimore at San Diego: Here are the inner machinations of the Risdon family. I was agonizing over this game, unable to decide which team I thought would win. I pried my wife away from ?I Didn?t Know I was Pregnant? and asked her for her thoughts. She knows football fairly well, but when she gave me her explanation of why Baltimore would triumph, I was reminded why I love her so darn much. She answered my question with two of her own: ?Is Norv Turner still coaching San Diego?? and ?Baltimore?s defense is healthy, right?? Yes on both accounts, and yes to Baltimore. Ravens 24, Chargers 23. New England at New York Jets: One thing I took from the Patriots? shocking MNF comeback win is how poorly their offensive line played. A great victory like that is a great kick-start to get other facets fine-tuned with confidence, but until the final 5 minutes of the game the Bills thoroughly won the battle up front. That does not bode well considering the pressure and talent of the Jets front-seven. I think the Patriots losing LB Jerod Mayo for at least six weeks is more decimating than the Bears losing Brian Urlacher for the year, and Leon Washington is just the type of back who can really take advantage. Jets 30, Patriots 20. Partly cloudy and breezy games Houston at Tennessee: The last thing the reeling Texans need after their pounding at the hands of the Jets is to travel to Tennessee. Jets players openly mocked the softness of the Houston offense, and it?s not like the Titans are any less physical, even sans Haynesworth. Mario Williams didn?t sniff Mark Sanchez, and a Titans line that handled Pittsburgh pretty well can keep Kerry Collins? scent a mystery too. Tennessee 28, Houston 17. Pittsburgh at Chicago: With the loss of two Chicago starting LBs and the turnover-plagued debut of Jay Cutler, it sure seems like Pittsburgh should cruise in this one. But beware the obvious! Chicago has the best record against the Steelers franchise of any other opponent, including 13-2-1 at home. A lot of those wins came back during the Halas era when the Steelers were doormats, but that?s still tough to ignore. If Chicago commits to pounding Matt Forte and brings the A-game pass rush they had in Green Bay, they?ve got a real good chance to knock off Pittsburgh. With Lawrence Timmons iffy and Troy Polamalu out, the Steelers have key defensive injury issues of their own that the Bears are well-equipped to exploit. The home crowd should provide enough frenetic energy to carry Chicago. Bears surprise the Steelers 24-20. Seattle at San Francisco: The 49ers pulled off an impressive opening win over division rival Arizona, while Seattle did the same to St. Louis. That makes this game very integral to deciding the NFC West race. Even though San Francisco tends to play better within the division, two things stand out that do not bode well in this matchup. Having seven 3-and-out series against Arizona?s defense isn?t likely to get easier against Seattle?s shutout-pitching D, which held St. Louis to 2-for-12 on 3rd down conversions. Just as impressive for Seattle was the play of their injury-ravaged OL, which kept Matt Hasselbeck from getting touched and gashed open some huge holes for Julius Jones. I just don?t think Seattle will make the mental gaffes that Arizona did, and the Niners aren?t dynamic enough on offense to outscore Seattle without some help. Seahawks 22, Niners 15. Carolina at Atlanta: This game is absolutely critical for the reeling Panthers, who cannot afford another early conference loss if they want to keep their playoff dreams from drowning. It won?t be easy against an Atlanta defense that looked both tougher and quicker than last year in nearly blanking Miami. I love how Tony Gonzalez has dynamically altered pass defense against the Falcons, and don?t be fooled by Carolina only allowing 82 yards passing last week--Philly had no reason to throw. I wouldn?t put it past Jake Delhomme to pull off an emotional comeback from last week?s disaster, but it?s to the point where I need to see it to regain my confidence in him. Atlanta runs to a 24-14 divisional win. Cincinnati at Green Bay: Lost in the miraculous way they lost to Denver was the near-complete incompetence of the Bengals offense against what figured to be a lousy Broncos defense. I don?t expect Laveraneus Coles to drop four balls in the first half again, but that wrinkled shirt needs a lot of ironing before it?s crisp and ready for Sunday bests. The Packers feed off the gut-check win over Chicago and fly high at home, though beware a very good Bengals secondary. Green Bay 27, Cincinnati 13. Arizona at Jacksonville: This is all about Arizona; the sluggish, out-of-sync Cardinals team that showed up last week has little chance, but the high-flying precision attack we all enjoyed watching last January should romp. Jacksonville?s offense had its own issues against a Colts defense that lacks the dynamic playmakers in the back 7 (or 8 in Arizona?s case), and the Cards D was not the problem. Arizona has struggled mightily in the Eastern time zone in September, having lost 14 of their last 16 qualifying trips. I see a low-scoring, field position battle that Jacksonville ekes out on a late field goal. Jaguars 19, Cardinals 17. Cold and rainy games St. Louis at Washington: The only question here is whether the Rams can avoid a second straight shutout to start the season. Washington was fairly game in their loss to the Giants and must avoid overlooking a vastly inferior foe. Look for a breakout week from Skins rookie Brian Orakpo in the Rams backfield. This is my survivor fantasy game pick for this week, good time to use the Skins. Washington 24, St. Louis 10. Oakland at Kansas City: For as little time as he?s spent in Oakland, Richard Seymour was the clear team MVP in their heartbreaking opening loss. Seymour bagged two sacks and was a consistently disruptive force. With his shocking trade from New England, Seymour could have gone to Oakland and sulked his way through the opener. Instead he came out fired up and with an infectious intensity that had a real impact on his teammates. They got themselves a positive winner, and the Raiders are better for it. Oakland 20, Kansas City 17. Minnesota at Detroit: Sorry my fellow Lions fans, the 1-24 string does not end here. And this time the refs won?t have to hand the game to the Vikings, or have Matt Stafford run out of bounds in the end zone. Vikings 36, Lions 16. Tampa Bay at Buffalo: A lot has been made about the recent history of Buffalo seizing defeat from the jaws of victory in dramatic fashion. What pertains to the forecast here is how they responded the following week. Last year after the Cleveland debacle, they bounced back to hang a 54-31 whipping on the (hapless) Chiefs. Two years ago they responded to the Cowboys collapse by nipping the Ravens (after a bye), and got pounded by Pittsburgh after the freakish opening loss to Denver. Two of the three epic failures have been followed by wins over ?down? teams (those Ravens finished 5-11, the Chiefs 2-14). Tampa Bay fits that ?down? category. Buffalo 29, Tampa Bay 17. Cleveland at Denver: This is a crazy reason to pick the Browns in this matchup of have-nots, but I?m heading to Cleveland this weekend. The last 5 times I?ve visited my home city during football season in the last two years, the Browns have come up victorious. Just don?t ask me how they?ll pull this one off, though I suspect Jamal Lewis and Shaun Rogers will play major roles against a Denver team that doesn?t counter either of them very well. Cleveland 16, Denver 13. Drinking in the Dorm Room Games 3-2 last week, 6-4 on the season. Big weekend for the MAC, as CMU used superlative special teams to knock off Michigan State in a game that sure didn?t feel like an upset, and Toledo clobbered Colorado 54-38 in a game that wasn?t really that close. With near-upset wins by Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan over Big 10 schools, and Bowling Green choking away a huge upset over Missouri, it?s hard to argue the MAC doesn?t belong in the expanded BCS argument. Even my Ohio Bobcats won a road game, in overtime at North Texas. Not exactly a marquee victory, but we?ll take it! Florida 44, Tennessee 17 California 36, Minnesota 34 Virginia Tech 26, Nebraska 20 Ohio State 40, Toledo 34 in a game I?ll be attending at Cleveland Browns stadium Michigan State 33, Notre Dame 31

Brady On Ryan: 'Talk Is Cheap'

Oct 10, 2014 10:32 AM

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady isn't concerned with all the talking that Jets coach Rex Ryan has done. New England will battle New York in Week 2. Brady said Wednesday that the Jets are a confident team with a talented defense, but that "talk is cheap." Ryan has been taking shots at the Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick since he arrived in New York.
