Ryan: Clemens Opens Camp As Jets' QB

May 16, 2014 11:19 PM

Jets coach Rex Ryan says that veteran quarterback Kellen Clemens will open training camp as the team's starter. "Kellen Clemens will be No. 1 (on the depth chart), (Mark) Sanchez will be two and (Erik) Ainge will be three," Ryan said Thursday. "There is going to be a competition. Clemens going in will get the first reps, and Sanchez will get twos." Ryan made it clear that there is no guarantee that Clemens will hold onto the top spot. "We are going to give Sanchez the chance to be with the ones as well," Ryan said. "I would say that it will be an open competition. We will evaluate them every day. We'll see how it progresses throughout the summer."

Harrison Questions Ryan's Intelligence

Sep 13, 2014 11:44 AM

NBC's Rodney Harrison has questioned the intelligence of new Jets head coach Rex Ryan. Harrison was a long-time member of the Patriots, one of New York's rivals in the AFC East. The New York Post asked Harrison if Ryan made a mistake by calling out the Patriots prior to training camp. "As a player, you think every team on your schedule is beatable. That may have been blown out of proportion because he can't say that he's scared of Bill Belichick," Harrison said. "But let's be honest, the Patriots have really dominated the Jets. That's just one way for him to get his players riled up and get New York to support him, but at the same time it puts a lot of pressure on you as a coach. I know he was a smart defensive coordinator, but I don't know how smart of a head coach he is to call out the Patriots, especially with Tom Brady being back and all the offseason additions they made."

Shaun Ellis has found the 3-4 defense rather challenging in New York. "It's very challenging because mostly you're doing a three-man rush and you get double-teamed a lot," Ellis told Jets.com. "It's a lot more fighting and clawing in the 3-4 to get the sacks."
