Washington's Injury Makes Not Taking Jets' Offer A Bad Gamble

May 17, 2014 12:41 AM

Leon Washington was anticipating his first big payday but rejected the Jets? last offer last summer of a deal worth at least $5 million annually. Seeking $6 million or more, he said in July, ?For me not to get rewarded, I?m not happy about it.? Washington suffered a bloody compound fracture of his right tibia and fibula in Sunday's win against Oakland. Alan Herman, Washington?s former agent, said, ?He lost the value of his contract this year, and sometimes you can never make that up.? He also lost a signing bonus of as much as $15 million if the deal was for five or six years, Herman said. In the N.F.L., where nonguaranteed contracts are the norm, the bonus is a critical part of what players are paid.

Jets' Sanchez Donates Hot Dogs To Charity

Sep 24, 2014 3:08 PM

Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez has donated 500 hot dogs and 500 hamburgers to the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, N.J. Sanchez issued an apology after he was criticized when caught on camera eating a hot dog on the sideline during the team's 38-0 victory against the Raiders on Sunday. "I want to apologize for that," he said. "I wasn't feeling very good and didn't eat much before the game, so I was feeling a little queasy. Toward the end of the game, I probably should have eaten one of those bars or something, but someone offered [a hot dog], so I grabbed it and tried to be discreet about it, but obviously not discreet enough. So I shouldn't have done that, and it won't happen again."

Braylon Unlikey To Face Suspension

Nov 2, 2014 4:57 AM

Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards is not likely to face a suspension in the wake of his recent legal woes. On Monday, Edwards was charged with misdemeanor assault in Cleveland Municipal Court for his alleged involvement in an incident outside a nightclub. An NFL spokesperson told the New York Post that "under the PC [player conduct] policy, when a player like Braylon, with no prior history of conduct issues, has been charged, we wait for a court resolution. Then we would review the facts for any possible discipline."

Thomas Jones Plans To Defy Over-30 RB Rule

Aug 7, 2014 12:40 AM

Thomas Jones rushed for over 200 yards last Sunday at the age of 31 and he believes he can continue for another four or five seasons. "I can play another four or five years if I want to, God willing, if I stay healthy," Jones said Friday before the Jets left for their next game at Oakland. "It's like, 'Are you kidding me?'" coach Rex Ryan said. "It almost looks like he's upside down. The size of those arms, they should be on the legs." Most NFL running backs begin to breakdown physically by the age of 30. "I don't even know who came up with that rule," Jones said defiantly. "Whoever came up with that rule obviously didn't play running back in this league, didn't prepare like I prepare, didn't watch film like I watch film, didn't take care of their body like I take care of my body. "Physically, I feel like a rookie. I don't feel like I've been in the league for 10 years. It's a mental thing."
