Rob Gronkowski Has No Regrets On Retiring, Won't Rule Out Return

Jan 28, 2020 9:09 PM

Rob Gronkowski has no regrets about retiring from the NFL after his first season away from the game.

“Oh, no, not at all. No regrets at all,” Gronkowski said. “Feeling good. I knew that’s what I wanted to do. I knew that that’s where I was headed, and no regrets at all, man. Been having a good year. I felt like that was the time. Had a month or so after the season and just felt like that was the time. Feels good to know that it was a good decision.”

Gronkowski is not ready to completely rule out a comeback.

“Oh, man, I don’t know,” Gronkowski said. “I’m a young guy — 30 years old. I still love to workout, stay in shape. Like I said, I’ve answered this question many, many times. I will never say complete no, because I love playing sports. I love competing. It’s still what I do to this day. No matter what it is. If I’m out playing basketball. I’ll answer this the same how I always answer it: If I ever come back, and I feel like I have that passion, that strong passion for a continued time, not just one day or like one hour, like, I need to play football again, and I’m talking about continued passion for about a good week or a good month or so. Then, I would think about truly coming back to football.

“As of right now, I’m set where I’m at. But I know I’m a young guy, and I still love to stay in shape and compete, so if that passion, that fire ever comes back, then that’s when I would come back to football.”

Drew Bledsoe Never Thought Tom Brady Would Become Starter

Jan 27, 2020 8:49 AM

Tom Brady made a strong impression on Drew Bledsoe immediately in New England, but Bledsoe didn't see Brady becoming a starting NFL quarterback.

"When he was on practice squad his rookie year, I actually called my financial advisor about him," Bledsoe recalled to ESPN. "I was like, 'I really like this kid. He's never gonna be a starter. He's gonna be Jason Garrett or one of those guys who's just going to be around forever. You'll really like the kid.' And we really liked the kid, we kind of brought him in, he was over at our house for dinner probably once a week. I really liked the kid, and still do. But nobody, outside of maybe Tom himself, would have ever predicted that he would go on to be a starter in the league and be in the conversation as maybe the greatest of all time."

Brady was never on the practice squad, but he was the Patriots' fourth-string quarterback at the start of his rookie season.

Tom Brady 'Open-Minded' About Where He'll Play

Jan 20, 2020 2:41 PM

Tom Brady continues to dance around questions about where he'll play in 2020.

"I am open-minded about the process and at the same time I love playing football and want to continue to play and do a great job," Brady said on a recent Westwood One appearance. "I am looking to what is ahead. Whatever the future may bring, I will embrace it with open arms."

The final two years of Brady's contract will automatically void on the first day of the new league year, making him a free agent. The New England Patriots cannot use the franchise tag on him, so he'll either sign a new deal or leave.

Tom Brady Not Putting Timeline On Decision

Jan 12, 2020 11:18 AM

Tom Brady plans on playing a 21st season in the NFL, but he isn't putting a timeline on finalizing his plans.

"The contract things, a week after the season, I would say these things haven't even started to pick up. It's really not my concern at this point," Brady told host Jim Gray in his weekly interview with Westwood One. "It's been about decompressing and resting my mind a little bit and resting my body and spending time with the people who have supported me over the last six months."

Robert Kraft is on record that he hopes Brady re-signs with the Patriots.

When asked about Kraft's remarks, Brady said, "I love playing football. I love playing for this organization. I really don't know what it looks like moving forward, and I'm just taking it day to day."

"We are a week removed from the end of our season," Brady continued. "There is a lot of time to figure these things out. I don't think any player or team is ready to make any commitments at this point, and I'm sure as the offseason progresses those things will take care of themselves."

Tom Brady Says On Instagram 'I Still Have More To Prove'

Jan 9, 2020 8:45 AM

Tom Brady appeared to announce his intention to play football next season in an Instagram post on Wednesday morning.

Brady said after Saturday's playoff loss to the Tennessee Titans that it was "probably unlikely" and "hopefully unlikely" that he would retire.

The quarterback wrote on social media, "In both life and football, failure is inevitable. You don't always win. You can, however, learn from that failure, pick yourself up with great enthusiasm, and place yourself in the arena again. And that's right where you will find me. Because I know I still have more to prove."

Brady, who turns 43 on Aug. 3, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on March 18. The New England Patriots can't use the franchise tag on him.
