Rob Gronkowski Says He Was Joking About Having Buccaneers' Playbook

Apr 30, 2020 9:18 PM

Rob Gronkowski said during a media event on Saturday that he's had the Tampa Bay Buccaneers playbook for four weeks, predating the trade that sent him from the New England Patriots last week.

He walked those comments back on Wednesday night.

"This is seriously a story?" Gronkowski said on Twitter. "Lol! I was just joking around with Sage [Steele] as I was pretty much the whole time that time when I was co-hosting the show [with Barstool Big Cat]. Wowsers, my co-hosting skills on point!! Lol!! I actually just received my team-issued Surface today from the Bucs and it's still in the package, and hoping it is all pictures and drawings. I'm pumped to open it one day hopefully soon and follow the arrows to learn where to run too. Gronk run Gronk catch ball. No playbook needed. Hehe."

The tight end made his original comments during the Bud Light Seltzer "Drafterparty."

After Steele pointed out that Joe Burrow has been studying the Cincinnati Bengals' playbook for weeks, Gronk said he's had the Buccaneers playbook for four weeks.

Bill Belichick: Patriots Not Drafting QB 'Wasn't By Design'

Apr 27, 2020 8:46 AM

The New England Patriots need depth at quarterback, but they didn't draft one with any of their selections this past weekend.

Thirteen quarterbacks were drafted overall. Bill Belichick said following the conclusion of the 2020 NFL Draft that passing on a quarterback wasn't necessarily New England's plan.

"If we feel like we find the right situation, we'll certainly draft them. We've drafted them in multiple years, multiple points in the draft," he said. "Didn't work out the last three days. That wasn't by design. We just tried to do the best we could with what we had this weekend."

The Patriots selected 10 players. They signed two quarterbacks as undrafted free agents -- Louisiana Tech's J'Mar Smith and Michigan State's Brian Lewerke.

John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan Considered Signing Tom Brady

Apr 21, 2020 5:33 PM

John Lynch admitted that the San Francisco 49ers discussed acquiring Tom Brady this offseason.

Brady reportedly put out word to the 49ers that they would be his choice if they were interested. Brady grew up as a fan of the 49ers in the Bay Area. The 49ers would have had to make a corresponding move involving Jimmy Garoppolo to make room for Brady.

"When you're talking about one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time with Tom Brady, of course you're going to have some internal discussion," Lynch told Rich Eisen. "And then you hear rumors that hey, he'd like to come home, that kind of thing.

"So of course Kyle and I have discussions. We're always into getting better, so you always look at everything, especially a situation like that. But within a day or two, Kyle and I looked at each other and said, 'You know what, we really like what we have in Jimmy.' We love everything that he brings and we really believe it's a long-term answer. I would tell you we're more convinced than ever about who our quarterback is in Jimmy Garoppolo."

Patriots To Wear Color Rush Uniforms As Primary Set

Apr 20, 2020 12:02 PM

The New England Patriots are adopting their Color Rush alternate uniforms as their primary uniform set moving forward.

Jen Ferron, the chief marketing officer of Kraft Sports and Entertainment, explained the rationale behind the change on the Patriots' website.

"As we started to think about the 2020 season and a new decade, we began to envision what we wanted our uniforms to reflect. The success of the 'Color Rush' uniform that we've worn for the past couple of years had us thinking that we didn't need to make real substantive changes, rather we could make modest changes to our home uniform and then use a complementary version with those same aesthetics for our away uniform," Ferron said.

The Patriots have a 6-1 record in the uniform since 2016.

New England will wear blue pants both home and away.
