Josh McDaniels Praises Cam Newton's Leadership

Nov 18, 2020 8:52 AM

Josh McDaniels says Cam Newton has provided perfect leadership as the quarterback of the New England Patriots.

"I think Cam's a tremendous example of what a leader is supposed to be," McDaniels said. "Leadership isn't easy. Being up front, playing quarterback in the National Football League is certainly a challenge. There's a lot of highs and lows that you’re going to experience. Cam, he's never wavered from his work ethic, from his attitude, from the way he approaches practice, the effort he gives on a daily basis."

The Patriots, 4-5, face an uphill battle to the postseason.

Bill Belichick Defends Salary-Cap Stance As Patriots Struggle

Nov 3, 2020 8:53 AM

Bill Belichick says he wasn't making excuses when he told SiriusXM NFL Radio that the New England Patriots were relying more on younger players and didn't have the same depth as past years because of the salary cap.

In his weekly radio interview on WEEI in Boston, Belichick expounded on his remarks, saying the current situation is a result of how the Patriots approached the previous five seasons.

"We sold out and won three Super Bowls, played in a fourth, and played in an AFC Championship Game. This year we have less to work with. It's not an excuse. It's just the facts," Belichick said.

Belichick's Patriots (2-5) are in the midst of their first four-game losing streak since 2002.

The Patriots had been tight to the salary cap for most of the offseason, in part because they were carrying about $26 million in dead space for players no longer on the roster.
