Josh McDaniels Not Worried About Mac Jones Hitting Rookie Wall

Dec 30, 2021 2:40 PM

Mac Jones has struggled the past two games, but Josh McDaniels isn't worried about the rookie quarterback hitting the rookie wall.

Jones has completed just 52 percent of his passes and thrown four interceptions in back-to-back losses.

"He's doing fine, no concern on that," McDaniels said of Jones hitting the rookie wall.

"Each rookie kind of handles that differently, there's always a stretch during the course of the middle of the season that's a little bit new to them. Because when you count the preseason, starting in July, usually that happens somewhere towards the end of October, middle of November, somewhere in there. He's gotten through that, he understands what he needs to do and does a great job with his regimen, takes care of his body, his preparation, he's learned how to manage his time and what he needs to allocate it towards."

Sean McDermott: Let's Not Give Too Much Credit To Bill Belichick

Dec 8, 2021 8:50 AM

Sean McDermott believes Bill Belichick is getting too much credit for the New England Patriots' 14-10 win over the Buffalo Bills on Monday night.

The Patriots called just three pass plays for Mac Jones, who completed two passes for 19 yards in the win. The weather was a huge factor in Buffalo with high wind gusts.

"Let's not give more credit than we need to give credit to Bill Belichick in this one," McDermott said after the loss. "Whether it was Bill or anybody else, they beat us, right? But you sit here and you tell me when we start with an average starting field position of the 40-yard line and he starts with the 23-yard line -- I'm rounding up in both cases -- and we were 1 for 4 in the red zone and they were 0 for 1 in the red zone? You give me that ahead of time, I'd say I like my chances. I like my chances.

"I don't think, with all due respect, it's not a Bill Belichick-type thing. It's what are you doing with the opportunities you got? What are you doing with the opportunities you got? We turned the ball over on the plus-30-something yard line. Sloppy football.

"Sloppy football. I'm very comfortable in that situation."

Patriots Throw Just Three Passes In Win Over Bills

Dec 7, 2021 9:08 AM

The New England Patriots threw just three passes in Monday night's 14-10 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Mac Jones was just 2-of-3 passing for 19 yards, while the Patriots ran for 222 yards on 46 carries.

"Just a crazy game to be a part of; it was just a weird day, but at the end of the day, you just get more points than the other team and it's a great day," Jones said. "I haven't seen that much wind, probably ever.

"Hats off to the offensive line for doing what they did; knowing we were going to run the ball and just putting their nose in there every play and making it happen was incredible. I've never been a part of something like that."

The three passing attempts are the fewest in Patriots history, while the two completions match their fewest, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

The three pass attempts were the fewest by any team since the Bills attempted just two in Week 3 of the 1974 season (vs. the New York Jets).

Patriots May Be Without Hunter Henry For Game

Dec 2, 2021 10:10 PM

As the New England Patriots prepare for the stretch run, they may have to play a game without tight end Hunter Henry.

Henry and his wife, Parker, are expecting their first child and the baby's due date is in December. Henry revealed this week that if the baby is born on a game day, he'll be skipping the game so that he can attend the birth of his first-born.

"That's a tough conversation, but this is my first, man," Henry said. "If it had to be a game or seeing my firstborn born, I'm going to go see my child be born. We're going to do our best to not have that come across."
