James White has agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the New England Patriots.

Whitehas spent the first seven years of his career with the Patriots.

White is viewed as New England's top passing back.

The New England Patriots have picked up an extra fifth-round pick in 2021 thanks to an error by the NFL.

The pick is 177th overall.

The league uses a formula to determine compensatory picks, and apparently, the formula is so complicated that even the NFL was briefly confused by it. When compensatory picks were originally handed out on March 10, the Patriots were given two.

The Patriots should have been given three compensatory picks and the NFL admitted that in a statement.

The New England Patriots re-signed Cam Newton this offseason, but they might not be done at quarterback.

The Patriots have been doing their due diligence on quarterbacks available in the 2021 NFL Draft, according to the "Move the Sticks" podcast.

"I keep an eye on somebody like Trey Lance or Justin Fields," Daniel Jeremiah said on the podcast. "Those are the two that would make sense for them to target. Hear a lot of rumors out there that they are really high on Justin Fields out of Ohio State. So, they'd have to (trade up) quite a ways to get Justin Fields."

New England has the 15th overall pick.

Robert Kraft has described the New England Patriots' free-agent binge as strategic.

"It's like investing in the stock market," Kraft said. "You take advantage of corrections and inefficiencies in the market when you can, and that's what we did here. We'll see. Nothing is guaranteed, and I'm very cognizant of that. But we're not in the business to be in business. We're in this business to win."

Kraft purchased the Patriots in 1994 for $172 million. In signing 19 free agents, some of whom played on the Patriots last year, he doled out about $162.5 million in guaranteed money over the last week.

The owner said: "In my 27 years as owner, I've never had to come up with so much capital before."

The New England Patriots are re-signing David Andrews to a four-year deal, according to a source.

Andrews, 28, has spent the first six years of his career with the team.

The center had signed a three-year extension with the Patriots in 2017 that had a base value of $9 million with a maximum value of $11 million.

Patrick Chung has decided to retire after initially indicating he planned to play during the 2021 season.

Having originally joined the team as a second-round draft choice in 2009 out of the University of Oregon, Chung was part of three Super Bowl championship teams in New England. He had spent one season with the Philadelphia Eagles, in 2013, but returned the next season.

Chung opted out of the 2020 season for family considerations, telling CBS in an interview, "It was a tough decision. You want to play football. I'm in the latter end of my career, but when it comes down to it, I feel money is not that important. I have a girlfriend who is pregnant, a baby girl coming soon, my son has a little asthma, my dad is 75 years old. I just felt like this was the best decision for my family to keep everyone safe. It's not over, it's just postponed a little bit."

The New England Patriots are bringing back veteran defender Kyle Van Noy.

The Miami Dolphins released Van Noy last week, just one year after signing him to a four-year, $51 million contract.

Miami was unsuccessful in trying to trade Van Noy.

According to a source, Van Noy will receive a two-year, $13.2 million deal from the Patriots.

The New England Patriots continue to spend this offseason.

They have agreed to terms on a three-year, $37.5 million deal with Hunter Henry, according to a source.

Henry will receive $25 million guaranteed.

The agreement comes just one day after the Patriots also added Jonnu Smith in free agency.

The New England Patriots have agreed to a two-year, $26 million deal with Nelson Agholor, according to a source.

The Patriots added Jonnu Smith to the offense earlier Monday.

After inking a one-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders last March, Agholor tied a career-high with eight touchdowns.

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a five-year, $80 million deal with Joe Thuney.

Thuney was a third round pick in 2016 by the New England Patriots.

Thuney played last season under the franchise tag.
