Tom Brady Restructures Contract To Free Up $24M

Dec 30, 2014 8:37 PM

Tom Brady has restructured his contract with the New England Patriots to free up $24 million for this offseason.

Under the new deal, Brady changed the $24 million in "skill" guarantee to only "injury" guarantee, meaning that Brady now would get the guaranteed money only if he were injured.

Brady also now can be released by the Patriots without any liability, but he then would become an unrestricted free agent, free to command the type of guaranteed money he has agreed to surrender.

Belichick: Jimmy Garoppolo Has Consistently Improved Every Week

Dec 26, 2014 11:54 AM

Jimmy Garoppolo figures to receive some playing time in Week 17, which is a meaningless game for the New England Patriots in terms of playoff implications.

“Jimmy has worked hard and consistently improved every week,” Bill Belichick said. “He’s running different offenses with the scout team and having to keep up with what we are doing and our installation and our game plan on a weekly basis. He’s been durable, healthy, out there every day, keeps getting better. [He] has worked on a lot of things that we have identified for him to do. He’s been better and has a better understanding of the league. These last three weeks have been good for him.”

Edelman caught a team-high seven passes for 88 yards and converted a first down on a 6-yard run, playing through the fourth quarter last week.
