Jon Gruden Likens Cam Newton To Power Forward

Sep 24, 2020 8:19 AM

Ahead of this weekend's game between the Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots, Jon Gruden was asked about Cam Newton, who he met in 2011 as part of his QB Camp series for ESPN.

"I haven't seen many guys walk through my doors that look like Cam. I call him 'Slam.' Slam Newton. That was the nickname I gave him. He is a power forward playing quarterback," Gruden said.

The Raiders are 2-0 heading into the matchup with Newton's Patriots. He is 45-of-63 for 552 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, while adding 122 yards on 26 carries and four touchdowns in two games.

"Cam looks like he's the usual Cam. He's a threat to do a lot of different things," Gruden added.

Cam Newton: 'It's Not About Money, It's About Respect'

Sep 23, 2020 1:15 PM

Cam Newton has played well for the New England Patriots through two weeks and said Tuesday that the value of his contract, and a possible extension, aren't priorities for him.

Newton is playing on a one-year deal with a base salary of just $1.05 million. The value can increase to $7.5 million if he reaches all incentives.

"Surprisingly but true, and factual enough, if I do what I'm supposed to do, as I'm expected to, that will not be a topic of discussion moving forward," Newton said.

"Money at this particular point in my career is not important. Let's be honest: I've made money, but for everything that I play this game for, I haven't received yet. And that's why I'm playing. So it's not about money, it's about respect."

Charges Against Robert Kraft Likely To Be Dropped

Sep 22, 2020 8:35 AM

Florida prosecutors won't appeal a court's decision blocking video that allegedly shows Robert Kraft paying for massage parlor sex, making it likely the charges against him will be dropped.

The Florida Attorney General's Office said, if the state challenged the decision to the Florida Supreme Court and lost, it could have "broader, negative implications" on future investigations beyond the Kraft case.

Last month, the Florida 4th District Court of Appeal found that Jupiter police violated the rights of Kraft and others when they secretly installed video cameras inside massage rooms at the Orchids of Asia Day Spa in early 2019.

The state's decision means the charges against Kraft and about 20 other men will likely be dismissed. The recordings, which have not been made public, are the only known potential evidence that the men paid for sex.

Cam Newton Not Concerned About Physical Toll After Running 15 Times

Sep 16, 2020 8:37 AM

Cam Newton ran 15 times for 75 yards in his first game for the New England Patriots on Sunday.

The quarterback brushed off concerns about the physical toll the gameplan might take on his body.

"I just feeling like that's just how my running style has kind of morphed over the years," Newton said.

"I just feel like I've gotten better at it. From the time that I got into the league until the time now, people always see the running amount, but at the same time, the toll on the runner is not always the same as a running back, so to speak. I think quarterbacks all alike have this invisible role to be able to get down in the open field, because they don't have to finish the run as other positions would like to do. So either I'm the hammer and not the anvil, delivering the blow, or at the end of the day I can get down and, like they all say, live to fight another day."
