Sean McVay Won't Pursue TV Job This Offseason

Feb 28, 2022 11:05 AM

Sean McVay revealed that he won't pursue any television opportunities this offseason and is committed to remaining head coach of the Los Angeles Rams.

The New York Post, citing sources, reported Friday that McVay was set to meet with Amazon next week, with Amazon possibly willing to offer him as much as five years and $100 million. Amazon will stream "Thursday Night Football" exclusively on Prime Video starting this fall.

In January, multiple league executives suggested to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler that McVay could follow a similar coaching/broadcasting path to Jon Gruden, whom McVay coached under in Tampa Bay in 2008, and take a break from coaching for a lucrative TV job.

Aaron Donald Might Need Major Raise From Rams To Play In 2022

Feb 17, 2022 8:44 AM

Aaron Donald has floated the idea of retirement this offseason, but it could come down to the type of contract he receives from the Los Angeles Rams.

"Here's what else we heard: Donald might need to become the league's highest-paid defensive player in order to play in 2022," writes Jeremy Fowler at ESPN.

Donald turns 31 in May and hasn't hidden retirement behind the scenes. Donald has talked to some teammates about leaving the game earlier than expected but no one believes him.

Donald has three years left on a six-year, $135 million deal($22.5 million per year) that is now outdated for the best defensive player of the past decade.

The most-watched Super Bowl ever remains the 2015 game between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, which had 114.4 million viewers.

"We'll see," McVay said.

"I’m just enjoying this moment right now. I’m really happy to be a part of this. Happy for that."

Rams Eye Plan To 'Do It All Over Again'

Feb 15, 2022 8:38 AM

In the wake of their victory in Super Bowl LVI, the Los Angeles Rams are eyeing a plan to "do it all over again."

The Rams are currently over the 2022 salary cap and aren't projected to pick within the top 100 in April's draft.

"I've seen some charts that show offseason resources and if there's a bottom of it, we're like below it, we're off on the other page," COO Kevin Demoff said. "But at the same time, I think we'll have eight draft picks. We'll look at the salary cap and what can be done. But the one thing I will say, and this is such a credit to [ownership] and Sean [McVay] and Les [Snead] and the players: This is a place where players want to be. Our own players, other players. And when you see the scenes from last night, this will only make it more desirable to be a Los Angeles Ram. And when you start with that premise, there are a lot of things you can get done to improve your chances to hopefully be back to this press conference next year."

ESPN To Pursue Sean McVay For Monday Night Football

Feb 14, 2022 9:19 PM

If Sean McVay decided to walk away from coaching this offseason, ESPN would pursue him for Monday Night Football. McVay would likely command a salary of more than $10 million per year.

“No, no” McVay said on NFL Network and then chose to evade the question. “I’m so happy for this team right now. I’m so happy to be associated with it. We’re going to enjoy tonight. I’m not going to remember any of it.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that McVay has two years left on his Rams contract, but is in line for an extension. McVay reportedly makes $8.5 million to coach.

In 2020, The Post reported ESPN had conversations with McVay about joining “Monday Night Football.” McVay stayed with the Rams.
