Without do-it-all receiver Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey offered the Niners the ultimate in versatile performances, as he threw for, ran for and caught a touchdown as the Niners beat the Rams and moved to 4-4 heading into their bye week.

"I think everyone knows how good of a player he is, but I just like how consistent he is and under control in what he does," Shanahan said. "He's a very smart player, and he makes a lot of plays and stuff, but it's the consistency of how he plays his game. I feel like he was a great guy to add for us."

Cooper Kupp was down on the field after injuring his right ankle late in the Los Angeles Rams' loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but the wide receiver said "things are pointing towards dodging a bullet" with the injury.

Kupp said he feels "pretty good right now," but that he will know more after he sees how his ankle responds over the next few days. Kupp had tape wrapped around his right ankle during his postgame news conference.

"It just got rolled up a little bit," Kupp said. "Foot got caught, but I think it was able to slide out of there before there was too much damage done, and so, we'll see over these next few days how it responds."

The Los Angeles Rams are not planning to part ways with Cam Akers if they are unable to trade the third-year running back, sources told ESPN.

The Rams would find a trade partner for Akers in a perfect world, according to sources, but they also recognize that he can still help them this season.

Therefore, if Akers is not dealt before Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, he is expected to return to the Rams and play for them again this season, sources said.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel has made a habit of torturing the Los Angeles Rams, but he won't be able to do it Sunday as he has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Samuel, who did not practice all week, suffered the injury in last Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. 

Cooper Kupp didn't hesitate when asked if he had a preference for playing on a turf or natural grass field.

"It's not even close," Kupp said. "I know there's stuff going around the league right now, there's some issues. Hands down, we should be playing on grass. Hands down, we should be on grass. And that's all I'm going to say."

Questions about artificial turf have surfaced again after DK Metcalf and J.C. Jackson each left Sunday's game at SoFi Stadium with knee injuries, both on noncontact plays.

Kupp was then asked if the turf at SoFi Stadium was any different, and he quickly replied, "We should be on grass."

Cam Akers' days with the Los Angeles Rams may be numbered.

Sean McVay announced Friday that the running back wouldn't play on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers due to "personal reasons." McVay said the Rams would keep things internal and declined to discuss Akers' future.

According to a report, Akers and McVay have philosophical and football-related differences. He could draw significant trade interest if they are open to moving him for the right price.

Akers was a second-round pick in 2020. He tore his Achilles before the start of his second season in 2021.

Sean McVay says the Los Angeles Rams haven't made their final offer to Odell Beckham, Jr.

The wide receiver indicated on Twitter Wednesday that the Rams made an offer to him that wasn't reflective of his worth.

"LA knows where I wanted to be," Beckham tweeted. "... but they didn't offer me.... ANYthing! So idk what people want me to do, I def kno my worth and what the offer was isn't reflective of that. So it's tough to say that I can come on back even tho I thought I finally found that home !"

Beckham signed with the Rams in November and had 21 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns before tearing his left ACL during Super Bowl LVI.

"I love Odell," McVay said. "We have constant dialogue. He also knows that certainly I don't think that's the last [offer] that would come from us. I'm not familiar with what it is. He knows how we feel about him. We've got a little bit of time.

"But [I] love Odell. Nothing but good things coming from me."

The Los Angeles Rams remain the most likely landing spot for Odell Beckham, Jr. once he's healthy enough to return, per a report.

The Rams have maintained "a good relationship" with the wide receiver.

Beckham tore his ACL in the Rams' Super Bowl win over the Cincinnati Bengals in February.

Panthers coach Matt Rhule didn't want to discuss if he'd consider benching quarterback Baker Mayfield before next week's game against the Rams, but a left ankle injury could take the decision out of his hands.

Mayfield injured the ankle late in the first half when a player fell on it. He limped into the locker room with 11 seconds left and played most of the second half before former XFL star PJ Walker came on to finish the 37-15 loss to the 49ers that left Carolina with a 1-4 record.

Mayfield was wearing a walking boot when he met with reporters.

After the Los Angeles Rams' offense struggled for the second game in a row and the team lost their second straight to fall to 2-3 on the season, head coach Sean McVay said his quarterback needs help.

"I love Matthew Stafford," McVay said after a 22-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. "He is competing and doing everything in his power for this team. He needs some help. We've got to be able to help him."
