Matthew Stafford Calls Super Bowl Run 'Long Time Coming'

Jan 31, 2022 8:15 AM

After spending 12 seasons with the Detroit Lions, Matthew Stafford is finally going to the Super Bowl in his first year with the Los Angeles Rams.

Stafford was 0-3 in playoff games with the Lions. He's won three postseason games to get the Rams to Super Bowl LVI this month.

"Long time coming, you know? Spent a lot of years in this league and I've loved every minute of it," Stafford said. "I feel blessed to be able to play in this league for as long as I have but I sure am happy for this opportunity for not only myself but, really, so many guys in that locker room that deserve this too. And that's what it is, it's an opportunity to go out there and win another one."

Sean  McVay was asked how Stafford has risen to the occasion this postseason.

"I think he's played like he's capable of," the coach responded. "Risen? I think he's played like we thought he would. No moment's too big for him, I can tell you that much. He's elevated everybody around him. We got one more, we know it's gonna be a great challenge."

Aaron Donald: The Only Thing I'm Lacking Is A Championship

Jan 28, 2022 8:50 AM

Aaron Donald has accumulated a host of individual awards as one of football's best defensive players, but there's one thing he's yet to do in his decorated NFL career.

"I feel like I accomplished a lot in a short amount of time in this league," the Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle said. "The only thing I'm lacking now is being a world champion. To get to that point, we've got to win this week. So, we're focused on the 49ers and trying to find a way to beat them, to get to where we're trying to get to."

Donald has won three Defensive Player of the Year Awards. He's made eight Pro Bowls and seven first-team All-Pros.

Sean McVay: Kyle Shanahan Isn't In My Head

Jan 27, 2022 8:56 AM

Sean McVay insists Kyle Shanahan isn't in his head.

The Los Angeles Rams are 3-7 against the San Francisco 49ers since McVay and Shanahan took over their respective teams. The Rams have lost six straight to the 49ers.

"No," McVay said when asked if Shanahan was in his head. "What I do have is respect for these guys. They've done a great job. You look at it, you've got to play well in that three-and-a-half hour window that we're allotted. You look at the last time we played them — didn't finish the game. But this is a really good football team. We have a lot of respect for them, but we're competing and preparing to the best of our ability to see if we can advance. But this is a really good team. Kyle's an excellent coach. He's got great players, great coaches, good schemes, so that's why they're in the NFC Championship."

Chiefs, Rams Open As Favorites In Conference Championship Games

Jan 25, 2022 7:59 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs opened as 6.5-point favorites over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship while that line quickly moved to -7 at most sports books.

In the NFC Championship Game, the Los Angeles Rams opened as 3.5-point favorites.

The Chiefs were the only favorite to win in the divisional round.

The Bills nearly made it four outright upsets, something that has never happened in the divisional round during the Super Bowl era.

Matthew Stafford: Toe Won't Be An Issue Against Buccaneers

Jan 20, 2022 8:32 AM

Matthew Stafford doesn't expect his injured toe to be a factor in Sunday's divisional playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Stafford suffered the injury in the Los Angeles Rams' regular-season finale.

"I'm feeling OK," Stafford said. "The toe kind of happened in that game and that was kind of a real thing, but I got a bunch of treatment on it. I'm feeling a lot better. So I don't see anything limiting me in this game."

Matthew Stafford Says Toe OK, Not Feeling Playoff Pressure

Jan 14, 2022 8:38 AM

Matthew Stafford says his toe is doing OK and shouldn't impact him in Monday night's playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals.

The quarterback said his toe was landed on awkwardly late last Sunday as the Rams lost 27-24 to the San Francisco 49ers.

"But it's doing OK," he said. "I'll be out there. I'll be good to go."

Stafford will also be trying to win a playoff game for the first time in his 13-year career. He lost in all three of his appearances while with the Detroit Lions.

"Every time I step on the field I'm proving myself, whether it's a preseason game or a regular-season game, practice, a playoff game," he said. "I want to go out there and play well. This is just another opportunity to do that."

Kliff Kingsbury Expects Kyler Murray To Have 'Best Game Of His Career'

Jan 13, 2022 9:14 AM

Kliff Kingsbury has high expectations for Kyler Murray heading into their first NFL playoff game Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium.

"I think this is what he's been waiting for for three years," Kingsbury said of the Arizona Cardinals quarterback. "He's a guy who wants to be playing for something and knows he's playing for something.

"This is his first shot at the playoffs, and I expect him to probably play the best game of his career. I know he's going to give it everything he's got."

Kingsbury rooted his expectation for Murray's performance Monday night in Murray's personality. He said Murray doesn't have tells or signs that would lead Kingsbury to believe Murray will have a certain type of game.

"I wouldn't say there's anything to that extent; it's more just knowing the competitor that he is, knowing that he's been waiting for this moment for a long time," Kingsbury said. "It's been a grind, three years of trying to build this thing to get into the playoffs, day in and day out, a lot of ups and downs; I know he's just looking forward to this opportunity and he'll give everything he's got."
