San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been waiting for swelling in his right elbow to reduce so he can have the torn ulnar collateral ligament in it repaired.

That procedure was supposed to happen Wednesday in Arlington, Texas. But, after Purdy met with Dr. Keith Meister on Tuesday, the surgery will be delayed further, a source confirmed to ESPN.

The Kansas City Chiefs, fresh off their dramatic comeback victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday night, already have been installed as the favorites to win next season's Super Bowl.

Caesars Sportsbook has the Chiefs as the favorites to win Super Bowl LVIII at +550, followed by the San Francisco 49ers at +600 and Buffalo Bills at +650. The Eagles are next at +800 in the sportsbook's early Super Bowl odds.

Nick Bosa has been named the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Bosa received 46 first place votes and 237 points ahead of Micah Parsons. 

Bosa led the NFL in sacks with 18.5.

Brock Purdy plans to have surgery to repair his torn UCL on Feb. 22nd.

The surgery will allow Purdy to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of training camp. Dr. Keith Meister will perform the surgery in Dallas. 

Purdy became the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers following the injury to Jimmy Garoppolo. Purdy and Trey Lance are expected to compete for the starting quarterback job in camp.

The San Francisco 49ers have hired Steve Wilks as their new defensive coordinator, according to sources.

The Houston Texans hired former DC DeMeco Ryans away from the 49ers last week.

Wilks was the Carolina Panthers' defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach before being promoted to interim head coach upon Matt Rhule's firing.

ESPN has Brock Purdy jumping from 262nd overall to fourth in their redraft of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The San Francisco 49ers selected Purdy with the final pick in the draft and he emerged as a productive starting quarterback following the injury to Jimmy Garoppolo.

The New York Jets owned the fourth overall pick and selected Sauce Gardner, who went first overall in ESPN's redraft, and instead get a quarterback to replace Zach Wilson here. Wilson was the No. 2 pick in 2021 and does not appear to be a starting quarterback in the future.

Brandon Aiyuk, who faced both the Kansas City Chiefs (Week 7) and Philadelphia Eagles (NFC Championship Game) as a member of the San Francisco 49ers this season, believes he knows how Super Bowl LVII will play out.

A week after being eliminated by the Eagles, the 49ers wide receiver believes the Chiefs will "expose" Philadelphia.

"I don't know fully about that defense," Aiyuk said. "They talk about them being a good defense. I'm not too sure. I think this Kansas City pass game will expose what we thought we were going to be able to expose before some unfortunate circumstances. We'll see. But like I said, you got to get lucky to win a Super Bowl. And they just got extremely lucky last week."

The San Francisco 49ers will interview Steve Wilks for their defensive coordinator position.

The 49ers lost Demeco Ryans as he was hired by the Houston Texans as head coach.

Wilks was lauded for his work as interim head coach of the Carolina Panthers. 

While at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Aaron Rodgers declared, "I'm not going to San Fran."

The comments came a day after the San Francisco 49ers said they don't plan to pursue a high-profile quarterback this offseason.

The 49ers attempted to trade for Rodgers two years ago, which led to issues between the quarterback and the Green Bay Packers.

The San Francisco 49ers didn't expect to retain Jimmy Garoppolo heading into the 2022 season and he eventually returned, but his tenure with the team is all but over heading into the 2023 offseason.

“No, I don’t see any scenario of that,” Shanahan said when asked if Garoppolo could return.

The 49ers were close to trading Garoppolo last offseason.

Brock Purdy finished 2022 as the starter, but he will be out at least six months with a torn UCL. Trey Lance was lost for the season in Week 2.

The 49ers won't seek a veteran starter due to the presence of Purdy and Lance even though both are coming off major injuries.
