The injury is expected to sideline Purdy for six months regardless of his decision on surgery, the source told Schefter.

Jimmy Garoppolo: I Wish I Had A Helmet On Sunday

Jan 30, 2023 9:00 AM

The San Francisco 49ers were left without a functional quarterback after Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson suffered injuries in Sunday's NFC Championship Game.

Purdy suffered an elbow injury, but was forced to return to the game when Johnson was knocked out with a concussion.

Jimmy Garoppolo was on the sidelines for the 49ers, but was not in uniform.

Garoppolo fractured his foot and he was not cleared to return ahead of the game in Philadelphia. After it was over, Garoppolo was left to lament his role as an observer.

"I wish I had a helmet," he said.

Eagles Beat 49ers 31-7, Advance To Super Bowl LVII

Jan 29, 2023 7:19 PM

Behind a stifling defensive performance on Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles punched their ticket to Super Bowl LVII after defeating the San Francisco 49ers 31-7 in the NFC Championship Game.

Quarterback and penalty woes marred San Francisco throughout the game. The Niners were forced to largely rely on the ground game, with running back Christian McCaffrey accounting for their sole touchdown. All four of the Eagles' touchdowns were rushing TDs -- including two by RB Miles Sanders.

"Zero," McCaffrey said.

Deebo Samuel On Playing In Philly: No Stadium Is As Loud As Ours

Jan 26, 2023 8:39 AM

Deebo Samuel isn't too concerned about the atmosphere the San Francisco 49ers will face in Philadelphia for Sunday's NFC Championship Game.

Samuel acknowledged that fans will be riled up, but doesn't think Lincoln Financial Field will be any louder than Levi's Stadium in California.

"We know it’s going to be loud, but no stadium is as loud as ours at the end of the day," Samuel said. "They're at home, NFC Championship. They're going to be all riled up. We don't really too much feed into all that because we put the pads on and just go to work."

49ers Expected To Start Brock Purdy At QB In 2023, Trey Lance As QB2

Jan 18, 2023 10:58 AM

The San Francisco 49ers have Brock Purdy signed for $870,000 next season, $985,000 in 2024 and $1.1 million in 2025. The 49ers can't even negotiate an extension with Purdy until after 2024. San Francisco will have tremendous cap flexibility due to their savings at quarterback, which is of course the position that teams typically spend the most on.

The 49ers are currently expected to have Purdy begin next season as their QB1 with Trey Lance as the backup as he returns from injury.

The 49ers could listen to trade offers for Lance, but they would be unlikely to get as much value for him as they would need considering how much they still like him.
