John Lynch: 49ers Not Actively Shopping Trey Lance

Apr 25, 2023 7:24 AM

John Lynch has reiterated that the San Francisco 49ers aren't actively shopping Trey Lance.

"I think there's a lot of smoke, really, and that it hasn't been extremely active," Lynch said. "And it's not like we've put it out there that, hey, we're taking offers for Trey, call 1-800. It's not been the process. People's job in this is to ask questions. Has that happened on a couple occasions? Sure. But it hasn't been that substantive."

Lynch added that despite receiving calls, he expects Lance to be on San Francisco's 2023 roster.

"Absolutely. I expect Trey to be here, and we're excited about Trey's ability to compete and what he can do for our franchise just as we were when we drafted Trey," the general manager said. "And I think the only thing that's changed this offseason is that Trey's gone and got himself healthy. He was injured last year. He's done a really good job of doing that. He's done some different things in terms of his training this offseason. He's very encouraged by that, and we'll see when we get an opportunity to get out there on the field with him. But we have every reason to be encouraged as well."

Trey Lance On Trade Speculation: 'I Got No Comment On That'

Apr 24, 2023 9:34 AM

Trey Lance didn't have much to say about a potential trade from the San Francisco 49ers with the NFL draft kicking off this week.

"I got no comment on that," Lance said. "I have no information."

Brock Purdy is in line to regain the starting job after his stellar end-of-season run whenever he's healthy. However, he won't be cleared to throw until June.

San Francisco also signed Sam Darnold this offseason.

"Last year I played the one game in Chicago and then got hurt, so it was kind of over before it even got started. But I am just excited for this year," Lance said. "This offseason, just focusing on getting better. Focusing on getting these guys better in the locker room and just being a great teammate, a great leader."

Nick Bosa To Cardinals: I'll Haunt You If You Take Kyler Murray

Apr 22, 2023 8:42 AM

The Arizona Cardinals had Nick Bosa as the best overall prospect in the 2019 NFL draft, but they picked Kyler Murray at No. 1 given their need at quarterback. The San Francisco 49ers owned the No. 2 pick that year.

“When Kliff Kingsbury and I got together to go to see players and have dinners, we went to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and had dinner with Nick Bosa prior to the draft. And loved him, obviously. Our highest-graded guy on the board. Amazing in every way,” former Arizona GM Steve Keim told Colin Cowherd.

“He puts his arm around me and Kliff Kingsbury, both of us, in basically a headlock,” Keim said. “And he said, ‘I think you guys are going to end up taking that little quarterback, and if you do,’ he looked over at me and said, ‘Steve, I will haunt you for the rest of your career.'”

Bosa was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 and has been a dominant pass rusher since entering the NFL.

49ers Receive Trade Interest On Trey Lance

Apr 19, 2023 10:55 AM

The San Francisco 49ers have received trade calls from multiple teams with interest in Trey Lance.

The 49ers used the No. 3 overall pick on Lance in 2021 and he started the 2022 season as their starter, but he broke his ankle in Week 2. The emergence of Brock Purdy during the second half of the season has put Lance's future with the 49ers in question.

The 49ers are receiving the calls and not making them and they likely would prefer to wait to see how Purdy progresses in his rehab from his elbow surgery.

Brock Purdy Looks Like He Has 'Robotic Arm' After Surgery

Apr 3, 2023 9:33 AM

It remains to be seen whether or not Brock Purdy will be ready for training camp after undergoing UCL surgery.

Purdy suffered the injury in the NFC Championship Game and could compete with Trey Lance and Sam Darnold for starter reps.

The second-year quarterback is wearing a large elbow brace designed to allow movement to ensure his arm retains mobility post-surgery. The young QB noted that the brace makes it appear he has a "robotic arm."

"When you first get in it after surgery, you're in it at 90 degrees. From there, you can start opening it up to help with your range of motion," Purdy said of the brace.

"It is just to keep your arm safe when you're out walking around or doing therapy. But at night, I can take it off and just do some normal motions with just looking at my arm."
