Carson Wentz To Trey Lance: Don't Let Pressure Change You

Jun 29, 2021 9:37 AM

San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Trey Lance recently got some advice from the only other North Dakota State player in history to be selected with one of the top three picks in the NFL Draft.

Lance was in Fargo for a charity softball game hosted by Carson Wentz.

His advice to Lance about dealing with the expectations that come with a team trading up to take you third overall was to block out the noise.

"There are going to be a million things pulling you in one direction, then the other direction, pressure, expectations, all these things," Wentz said. "But I know Trey. He's got a great head on his shoulders. He's young, age-wise, but he's very mature. I know he's going to be just fine. He's in a great situation. They have a great culture there in San Fran, a good coaching staff. So I know he's going to do a great job, and I'm excited for him. I just keep telling him to be himself: 'Don't let any of those things change who you are, change your values, change your perspective on football. Just go play.'"

49ers Cancel Remaining OTAs, Minicamp

Jun 9, 2021 4:58 PM

The San Francisco 49ers will not have any more OTAs and are also canceling their full-team minicamp scheduled for June 15-17.

The 49ers lost two players to season-ending injuries this week.

Kyle Shaanhan said the decision to cancel minicamp was made before the injuries.

"We're totally done," Shanahan said. "My plan was to get eight and then I was going to surprise them on Thursday and take everyone bowling, but after our seventh practice with those two injuries and just the aura it gave to it, I wasn't going to come back and do one more just to do one more. So I surprised them on Day 8 instead of Day 9."

49ers Lose Justin Skule, Tarvarius Moore To Season-Ending Injuries

Jun 8, 2021 8:46 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have lost two players for the season during an organized team activity on Monday.

Offensive lineman Justin Skule suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, and safety Tarvarius Moore tore his Achilles.

While neither Skule nor Moore has been an established starter for the Niners, both have played prominent roles in recent seasons.

Skule has played in 31 regular-season games over the past two years with 12 starts at tackle and guard.

Weston Richburg Retires From NFL

Jun 2, 2021 2:24 PM

Weston Richburg has announced his retirement from the NFL.

Richburg was made the highest-paid center in NFL history a few years ago with the San Francisco 49ers. Richburg missed the entire 2020 season because of a lingering shoulder injury and his continued efforts to recover from a torn right patellar tendon suffered in Week 14 of the 2019 season.

After four years with the New York Giants, who selected him in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft, Richburg signed a five-year, $47.5 million contract with the 49ers in the opening days of 2018 free agency.
