The New York Jets have hired Robert Saleh as head coach.

Saleh had been defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers. 

Saleh quickly became the frontrunner for the Jets and flew to New Jersey on Tuesday for a second interview. 

Saleh is expected to take 49ers passing game coordinator Mike LaFleur with him as his offensive coordinator.

Katie Sowers won't return to the San Francisco 49ers next season.

Sowers was one of the NFL's first full-time female assistants and its first openly gay coach.

Her contract is expiring after four seasons with the team as an offensive assistant, primarily working alongside receivers coach Wes Welker.

Sowers made the announcement on social media.

Kyle Shanahan said on Sunday afternoon that he believes San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh will interview with the Atlanta Falcons on Monday.

It will be a remote interview under current NFL protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Detroit Lions are also expected to speak with Saleh, who was born in Michigan.
