Fred Warner Expects To Blitz More Under 49ers' New DC

Jul 23, 2021 9:13 AM

The San Francisco 49ers made Fred Warner the NFL's highest-paid linebacker earlier this week.

With the 49ers moving from Robert Saleh to DeMeco Ryans as its new defensive coordinator, Warner is expecting to blitz more in 2021.

"That is for sure a point of emphasis going into this season, the blitzing," Warner said. "I know I'll have more opportunities in the pass-rushing game and forcing fumbles."

Richard Sherman was booked at 6:08 a.m. local time Wednesday at the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle and is being investigated for burglary domestic violence.

A 911 call from the residence was received at 2 a.m. PT. The person calling said that an adult male family member who did not live at the residence was attempting to force his way into the home.

When police arrived, the suspect was outside the home. He fought with police but was eventually apprehended and taken to a local hospital to be checked. After he was cleared medically, he was booked into the King County Correctional Facility.

Sherman, 33, completed his third season with the San Francisco 49ers in 2020 after spending the first seven seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks.

Sean McVay Thought 49ers Might Draft Kyle Pitts

Jul 9, 2021 9:52 AM

When the San Francisco 49ers traded up for the third overall pick earlier this year, Sean McVay thought they might draft tight end Kyle Pitts.

Following the move, most of the speculation surrounded quarterbacks. The 49ers ended up using the pick on Trey Lance.

"I thought there was a possibility that Kyle [Shanahan] was gonna go Pitts at three," McVay said on the Flying Coach podcast. "In all seriousness, because he's such a visionary. I'm telling you, I didn't think it was going to be a crazy thought because you go back to when New England had the two-tight end set, and they were doing things totally different. You think about what [George] Kittle. And then, the thing that makes sense is that, hey, [Jimmy Garoppolo] produced all the way. This isn't a production thing. This is an availability thing that you're saying, 'We can't have that,' like, all the things.

"But I was like, 'If it's not Mac Jones -- and I hadn't studied Trey, just because there wasn't a lot of film exposure going back a couple of years, and we weren't in that market, so I didn't know other than watching him throw at his pro day that you're saying, 'Alright, you can see a lot of the things that you would like and that would make sense.'"
