Burress Wants To Join Eagles, Vick

Jul 3, 2014 4:31 PM

Plaxico Burress wants to play for the Eagles next season. The free agent told a Philadelphia radio station that he wants to sign with the Eagles and be reunited with his childhood friend, Michael Vick. "Hey, man, nothing else would make me happier," the wide receiver said. Burress said he would add a "unique dynamic" to the team's offense, joining a receiving corps that includes DeSean Jackson (a free agent) and Jeremy Maclin. He added that he talks once or twice a week with Vick, and he believes it would be a "special deal" to team up with him because of their friendship and similar background. "I really believe he can bring a championship to Philadelphia, and I'd love to be part of that," Burress said.

Eagles Could Make Run At No. 2 Pick

Oct 22, 2014 9:15 AM

The Rams are expected to trade the second overall pick in April's NFL Draft and the Eagles may be a potential trading partner. Phil Sheridan of the Philadelphia Inquirer writes that the team shouldn't be ruled out as Robert Griffin III could be a fit. "It has been correctly noted that the Eagles' commitment to Michael Vick really ends after the 2012 season," Sheridan writes. "The structure of that contract was one of the reasons many people believed Reid deserved to be back for at least one more season." "Maybe there will be a Luck or a Griffin in the 2013 draft, when the Eagles might have to find their next QB. Maybe not. If the Eagles really believe Griffin is that special talent who can lead a team to a Super Bowl, this is the one and only time to get him," he continued.

Jenkins Restructures Deal To Remain With Eagles

May 17, 2014 9:55 PM

The Eagles and Cullen Jenkins have restructured the defensive tackle's contract to keep him in Philadelphia. The pact was originally just for one year. Jenkins retains the $5 million roster bonus he is due in March, but his 2012 salary is reduced to $820,000. He will also receive a $1.5 million guaranteed salary in 2013, along with a $1 million roster bonus in March 2013. Jenkins agreed to a five-year deal with the Eagles last July, but was to be paid over $7 million in 2012, including the $5 million roster bonus due next month. His future with the team wasn't guaranteed unless the sides could agree to rework his contract.

Eagles GM: Trio Of Cornerbacks Can Play Together

Oct 27, 2014 3:37 PM

Howie Roseman believes that the trio of cornerbacks employed by the Eagles can co-exist and function effectively. Roseman expects the trio of Nnamdi Asomugha, Asante Samuel and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to be more imposing in 2012. "Last year was a unique situation in terms of practice time and preparation time, so I think that it gives us an opportunity with this offseason, with a normal offseason, to kind of jell together," the general manager said. However, Roseman didn't dismiss speculation that the 31-year-old Samuel could be traded. "Whenever you have a surplus at a particular position there are talks around the league, people call and your phone does ring," Roseman said, "and that's happened in the past couple years by our quarterback situation."

Study: Eagles' Cornerbacks Had Issues Tackling

Oct 31, 2014 1:28 PM

Despite entering the 2011 season with what many believed was the best group of cornerbacks in football, the Eagles struggled defensively. According to a study by ProFootballFocus.com, Philadelphia's cornerbacks struggled to tackle. The group is headlined by Pro Bowlers Nnamdi Asomugha, Asante Samuel and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Asomugha played 890 snaps and missed 12 of his 52 tackle attempts in 2011, ranking him 100th out of 101 cornerbacks. He missed a tackle every 4.3 attempts. Rodgers-Cromartie (98th) and Samuel (91st) also ranked low on the list.

Babin Hopes Eagles Use 'Wide Nine' In 2012

Oct 31, 2014 11:39 AM

Jason Babin likes the "Wide Nine" formation used by the Eagles at times this past season and hopes it is used often in 2012. The method -- in which the two defensive ends play more to the outside for better leverage on their pass rush -- has been criticized for telegraphing to an offensive lineman what his man is going to do on every snap. Babin finished tied for second in the league with 18 sacks last season. "When something isn't working, and you have a new component, what's the first thing people look at? The new component," Babin said. "It's human nature. If we would have won, what's the first thing (analysts) would have looked at? The 'Wide Nine.'"

Report: Eagles Will Franchise Jackson If No Deal Reached

Jul 28, 2014 7:50 PM

The Eagles will not let DeSean Jackson go without getting something in return, according to a report. Jackson's contract is set to expire in March and the development means Philadelphia is all but guaranteed to place their franchise tag on the wide receiver if a deal isn't reached by March 5. By franchising Jackson, the Eagles wouldn't let him hit the open market and maintain the option to trade the fifth-year receiver.
