April 2012 - Philadelphia Eagles Wiretap
Eagles Will Make Jackson Part-Time Punt Returner
The Eagles will no longer use DeSean Jackson as their primary punt returner after signing him to a five-year, $47 million contract this offseason.
Philadelphia special teams coordinator Bobby April says he still thinks Jackson will have a role when the Eagles need a spark.
"DeSean will return some," April said. "But we'll primarily focus him on offense and hopefully find a guy that can do what he can do. We want to use him offensively as a weapon. There's some wear and tear to a guy his size. ... Just the amount of running he does at practice. If you can eliminate some of it with the return game, if you can eliminate some of it in practice, he might be a little better replenished on game day. A little more explosive."
Jackson has been Philadelphia's top receiver and punt returner in each of the last four seasons.
Eagles Agree To Deal With McBriar
The Eagles have agreed to a one-year deal with long-time Cowboys punter Mat McBriar.
McBriar, a Pro Bowl pick in 2006 and 2010, has led the NFL in punting average twice and owns the fourth-highest career average in NFL history among punters with 400 or more attempts.
Source: Eagles Interested In Shockey
The Eagles are looking for a tight end and are showing interest in Jeremy Shockey.
Looking to add depth to the position, Philadelphia will also take a look at Visanthe Shiancoe.
The Eagles have the financial flexibility to bring another piece in. According to Pro Football Talk, they are working with more than $15 million of salary cap space.
Reid Fine With Vick's Dynasty Talk
Andy Reid doesn't feel any added pressure as a result of Michael Vick's comments about a potential Eagles dynasty.
"That's all right. I'm OK with it. I know the player," Reid said. "He loves challenges. He's as competitive as anybody you've ever been around. He wants to win. He's willing to do whatever it takes physically and mentally to do it."
Vick said his comments were totally different from Vince Young's remarks from a year ago.
"It's totally different from the Dream Team comment. This is a hypothetical thought," Vick told reporters.
"When you think about it in the sense that it's something to aim for -- we can create our own dream team, so nothing against what Vince said, it's just, this is what we can build if we have the right mindset."
Mike Patterson To Miss Training Camp
The Eagles have ruled out Mike Patterson for training camp and possibly more because the incision where he had brain surgery in January hasn't fully healed.
Patterson, placed on the non-football injury list Sunday, was diagnosed with a brain malformation last August after suffering a seizure during a training camp practice.
Eagles, Colts Complete Pre-Camp Trade
The Eagles have traded cornerback D.J. Johnson to the Colts in exchange for defensive tackle Ollie Ogbu.
Ogbu, an undersized pass-rushing tackle, went undrafted out of Penn State last year and was signed by Indianapolis as a rookie free agent.
A practice squad-caliber prospect, Ogbu will struggle to make Philadelphia's 53-man roster.
Vick: Giants Remain 'Team To Beat'
The Eagles were labeled as the "Dream Team" heading into the 2011 season, but things ended badly for Michael Vick's team.
Coming off yet another Super Bowl victory, Vick says that the rival Giants are the "team to beat" whether it be in the NFC East or across the league.
Report: Reid Felt Samuel Was In Steep Decline
The Eagles traded Asante Samuel earlier this offseason to improve their cap position and relieve a logjam at cornerback.
However, there may have been some other motivation behind the deal.
"[Andy] Reid thought (Samuel) was in steep decline and that his style no longer suited the scheme," Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer writes.

Michael Vick admitted on Tuesday night that he lied to his mother about his dogfighting past.
"I lied to my mom," Vick told CNN's Piers Morgan. "She really didn't know what was going on. She I think had heard just from people word of mouth that I was engaging in illegal activity but she couldn't put a finger on it and nobody else knew.
"I told her the truth the day I got arraigned. I think my mom cried for four or five days straight, and everybody else around me who loved me and cared about me, because they just didn't think it would go that far -- they didn't think I would end up going to prison. It was a dramatic change for everybody's life."
