Rams Make Alec Ogletree NFL's 2nd Highest Paid Inside Linebacker

Oct 12, 2017 11:10 PM

The Los Angeles Rams have agreed upon a four-year, $42 million contract extension with Alec Ogletree.

The deal contains $33 million over the first three years and he becomes the NFL's second-highest paid inside linebacker behind Luke Kuechly.

Ogletree, currently playing on the fifth and final year of his rookie contract, was originally drafted 30th overall by the Rams in 2013 and has totaled 443 tackles in 57 career games.

While the Rams paid Ogletree a significant salary, the franchise must also sign Aaron Donald to what could be the NFL's richest contract for a defensive player.

Rams Taking Tavon Austin Off Punt Return Duty

Oct 11, 2017 8:18 AM

After he muffed two chances last week, the Los Angeles Rams are taking Tavon Austin off punt return duty.

"We're going to give Tavon a break from that," Sean McVay said of Austin, who signed a four-year, $42 million extension with the Rams before last season.

Austin scored three times on punt returns in his first three seasons, but hasn't brought one back since the start of 2016. He has 20 rushing attempts and five receptions in 2017.

Sammy Watkins Confused About Role In Rams Offense

Oct 10, 2017 8:20 AM

Sammy Watkins was targeted just four times in last week's loss to the Seattle Seahawks and caught one pass for the Los Angeles Rams.

Watkins often asked for the ball more while with the Buffalo Bills. He hasn't been featured on offense by the Rams despite the price they paid to acquire him from Buffalo late in training camp.

"Sammy's a player that, he wants to be involved," Sean McVay said. "You never know when your opportunity is going to come, but let's just make sure that snap in and snap out, you continue to compete and contribute to the best of your ability."

Watkins has 14 catches for 211 yards and two touchdowns this year.

The wide receiver has taken a passive aggressive approach to his role. He's been retweeting messages that encourage the Rams to give him a larger role.

Last week, Watkins admitted he handled a similar situation in Buffalo poorly, when he asked for 10 targets a game.

"Two years ago, it would've probably been different," Watkins said. "I would've probably gone to the media and been saying whatever, trying to get the coach's attention. That's how I used to do it back then. Like, 'I need more targets.' Then that comes to the coach, and me and him have to talk."

Chargers Not Yet Discussing Return To San Diego

Oct 3, 2017 12:13 PM

With the Chargers struggling to fill their small stadium in Los Angeles, there has been speculation about the possibility of them moving back to San Diego.

"There is no discussion of returning to San Diego from the league or the club," said Joe Lockhart.

Fans in Los Angeles appeared to strongly prefer the Raiders and Rams over the Chargers before their relocation.

The Chargers are currently scheduled to move into the Rams' new stadium in Inglewood.
