Rams Won't Reveal No. 1 Pick Until Draft Night

Apr 27, 2016 8:21 AM

The Los Angeles Rams have no plans to reveal who they will take with the No. 1 overall pick until the last minute.

Jeff Fisher wouldn't reveal if the team had decided between Cal's Jared Goff or North Dakota State's Carson Wentz when asked on Tuesday.

"We'll get in touch with the player just prior to putting the card in," he said.

A number of reports have the Rams preferring Goff with the first selection.

Rams Want To Meet With Both Jared Goff, Carson Wentz

Apr 17, 2016 9:12 PM

The Los Angeles Rams want to meet with both Jared Goff and Carson Wentz ahead of the draft.

The Rams acquired the first overall pick from the Tennessee Titans and are believed to be leaning towards picking Goff.

Tennessee sent the top selection, along with its fourth- (No. 113) and sixth-round (No. 177) picks this year, to the Rams in exchange for Los Angeles' first-round pick (No. 15), two second-round selections (Nos. 43 and 45) and a third-round pick (No. 76) in 2016. The Titans will also get the Rams' first- and third-round picks in 2017.

One reason the Rams made this deal now is to give the team "two weeks to debate between Goff and Wentz. You can make a convincing case for both. Both are going to be good."

Rams Went On Secret QB Tour Before Deciding Upon Blockbuster Trade

Apr 17, 2016 5:31 PM

The Los Angeles Rams watched Jared Goff in a private workout in Berkeley in February morning in wet weather.

The workout would trigger the Rams' trade for the first overall pick two months later. Jeff Fisher and Les Snead came to Berkeley straight from Fargo to see Carson Wentz

Goff, according to one witness, flat out "ripped it" while throwing to former Cal teammates Trevor Davis and Maurice Harris. "The ball never hit the ground," said another person who attended the session.

"It was a great opportunity to see him throw a wet ball," Fisher recalled Thursday morning, a couple of hours after the announcement of a pricey trade with the Tennessee Titans that put the Rams on the clock with the No. 1 overall pick. "We were just going through the process, and he made all the throws, and he was outstanding."

The Rams are reportedly deciding between Goff and Wentz. Silver believes the Rams will take Goff.

"We're not looking over our shoulders here," Fisher told me Thursday. "We're planning for the future, and we're building this team, and this is the next step. Last year we drafted Todd Gurley, and we drafted [four] offensive linemen. This year, we know what we want, and we're going after it."

Jerry Jones Compares Titans-Rams Trade To Herschel Walker Deal

Apr 15, 2016 6:41 PM

Jerry Jones compared the Tennessee Titans' trade of the first overall pick to the Los Angeles Rams to the Herschel Walker trade he made after buying the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys traded Walker to the Minnesota Vikings to rebuild their roster.

"I was surprised, but knowing the organization I'm not surprised," Jones said Thursday night, via ESPN.com. "They're really showing their colors. Step out there and go to Los Angeles, and then when you look at how they're setting their sails and it doesn't surprise me at all with what they're looking for in the future. It goes to show you certainly need to be thinking about your moves way in advance of the draft if you're going to go this early. I applaud them. It sounds like they got (what) they wanted.

"Then you've got to look at Tennessee and see all those draft picks. I didn't know Herschel Walker was still around."

Jones' Herschel Walker trade comment is the most interesting aspect of his take.

Rams Believed To Prefer Jared Goff

Apr 14, 2016 3:50 PM

The Los Angeles Rams are currently leaning towards Jared Goff with the first overall pick, according to Adam Schefter.

Initial reports, however, indicated Carson Wentz was the preferred pick.

The Rams almost certainly wouldn't have moved up in the draft without a clear preference between quarterbacks.

Rams Acquire First Overall Pick From Titans

Apr 16, 2016 3:41 PM

The Tennessee Titans have agreed to trade the first overall pick to the Los Angeles Rams.

Tennessee will send the top selection along with its fourth- (No. 113) and sixth-round (No. 177) picks this year to the Rams in exchange for Los Angeles' first-round pick (No. 15), two second-round selections (Nos. 43 and 45) and a third-round pick (No. 76) in 2016. The Titans also will get the Rams' first- and third-round picks in 2017.

The Rams can now select the quarterback of their choice as they relocate to Los Angeles, likely Carson Wentz or Jared Goff.

"Our philosophy has always been to build through the draft," Rams general manager Les Snead said in a statement. "This trade is a reflection of that goal and [owner Stan] Kroenke's dedication to assembling a winning team on the field."

The Rams and Titans agreed upon the trade on Wednesday night, but agreed to withhold leaking it to the media until Thursday to not interfere with Kobe Bryant's final game.

"Kobe deserved his night. There was no reason for this trade to be announced on his night,” said a Rams' official.
