Rams Reiterate Patience With Jared Goff, Case Keenum Remains Starter

Aug 22, 2016 8:24 AM

The regular season is three weeks away and the Los Angeles Rams remain patient with first overall pick Jared Goff.

"What I've been saying since day one is we're going to be patient with him," Jeff Fisher told reporters. "Case [Keenum] is our starter. [Goff is] progressing, he's getting better. As he said, he's learning from his mistakes, he doesn't dwell on them. ... Case is our starter right now and, again, patience is the word. You can put it in quotes. We're going to be patient with him."

Goff completed eight of 12 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs as the backup to Keenum in his second preseason game.

Case Keenum 'Still Clearly Ahead' Of Jared Goff On Depth Chart

Aug 18, 2016 8:23 AM

Jared Goff took some snaps with the first-team offense on Wednesday and Jeff Fisher plans to try and get the rookie into this week's preseason game with the starters, but Case Keenum is still ahead of the No. 1 pick on the depth chart.

Keenum "is still clearly ahead" of Goff as the Los Angeles Rams evaluate their quarterbacks, according to Fisher.

Goff thinks he has "grown exponentially" since his first work with the team this spring.

"I feel like every day I am more comfortable, more fluid, more in a rhythm; stuff becomes more natural every day," Goff said. "It's been going well."

Rams Working On Extensions For Jeff Fisher, Les Snead

Aug 15, 2016 2:33 AM

The Los Angeles Rams are working on a long-term extension for Jeff Fisher and Les Snead with the hopes of reaching agreement before Week 1 of the regular season.

Both sides are motivated to get a deal done.

The Rams do not want Fisher to head into this season with it being the last on his contract.

On HBO's "Hard Knocks" this week, Fisher was seen telling his team, "I'm not ... going 7-9 or 8-8 or 9-7 ... we have too much talent here for that."

Jeff Fisher Hears From Mom About Swearing On Hard Knocks

Aug 12, 2016 6:58 AM

Jeff Fisher says he received a call from his mother after a recent episode of HBO's Hard Knocks in which the Los Angeles Rams coach used some curse words in describing his frustration with a player who broke team rules.

"I got one of these yesterday, 'Jeffrey!'" Fisher said. "This is from Mom. So I said, 'Sorry, Mom. That's our world. I'll try to do better.' When I hear 'Jeffrey!' It's uh-oh. Something went wrong."

Fisher's expletives came in response to Deon Long, who was cut for bringing a woman into his room at training camp, despite Fisher's strict instructions that there were to be no guests.

Jared Goff To Receive More First-Team Reps

Aug 10, 2016 9:38 AM

Case Keenum is technically still the starting quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, but first overall pick Jared Goff is getting more first-team reps.

Goff is expected to eventually overtake Keenum.

"That's part of the process," Jeff Fisher said. "As I mentioned, he's getting walk-through reps with the ones. This is one of the first or second times he's gotten live reps with the ones, but that will increase."

Fisher reiterated that he'll elevate Goff to the starting role when he feels the rookie is ready.

The Los Angeles Rams cut wide receiver Deon Long after he brought a woman into his training camp dorm.

Long was released earlier this summer and has since landed with the Philadelphia Eagles. In Tuesday's episode of HBO's "Hard Knocks," Jeff Fisher tells Long that he's being cut for violating team rules.

Long said that his visitor was there before curfew and he didn't intend to have her stay.

Rams Haven't Heard From Tre Mason In Seven Months

Aug 3, 2016 1:45 PM

The Los Angeles Rams haven't heard from Tre Mason in seven months and are growing concerned about his well-being.

The Rams have tried several times to get in touch with Mason, who was arrested in March on charges of reckless driving, marijuana possession and resisting arrest.

The team has been in contact with Mason's family and his agent, Bus Cook, but has been unable to get answers about the running back.

"Right now, we're more concerned with Tre Mason's well-being than we are his football career," Jeff Fisher said. "We're going to continue to try to reach him to see where he's at."
