The Chicago Bears have hired Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy as their offensive coordinator.

Getsy, 37, joins the staff of new head coach Matt Eberflus, who was hired last week.

Aaron Rodgers has hinted that he'll make a decision on whether he'll return to the Green Bay Packers by the NFL's franchise tag deadline.

Rodgers originally said he would likely have a decision by the time free agency begins on March 16.

There have been rumors that Rodgers and Davante Adams are a package deal, either to return to the Packers or to go elsewhere. If the Packers are going to use the tag on Adams, they can do so as early as February 22, but no later than March 8. 

"I'd like to be respectful of the organization," Rodgers said on "The Pat McAfee Show." "One decision that will be upcoming will be obviously Davante and his future with the team. There still is this thing called a franchise tag, which I don't think '17' wants the franchise.

"I think that should be enough time to make a decision by then. I don't want to put myself on a specific date, but I do want to be sensitive to Davante and many other guys who have decisions to make on their own futures. To drag it out past free agency would be disrespectful to the organization and to those guys, and that 100 percent will not happen."

Matt LaFleur says all of the Green Bay Packers' top decision-makers want Aaron Rodgers back with the team next season.

"Every conversation that I've been involved in with [Brian Gutekunst] and [Russ Ball] and [Mark Murphy], we're all on the same page there," LaFleur said. "There's no debate."

The question remains, however, whether Rodgers wants to return to the organization after a rocky offseason in 2021.

"I haven't even been part of any of those discussions, nor have I -- like I said last year -- allowed my mind to kind of get to that point," LaFleur said. "I just want to do everything in our power to try to get him back here and making sure he's comfortable with the direction of our football team, and confident that we can continue to have success here, and try to find a way to get us kind of over that hump so we can reach further and further and further."

The San Francisco 49ers changed the play call from a pass to a rush on their 3rd and seven with 1:03 remaining in their win over the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers didn't want to have an incomplete pass that would stop the clock and give Aaron Rodgers enough time to get into field goal range.

“So we called the pass, the pass I liked," said Kyle Shanahan. "I let them go to the line and then I just thought, It’s not worth it. I’ve seen it with Aaron. We had a motion on, but once we got to the line, I thought I was gonna call a timeout. So I let us start the motion and then I called time. Then I was like, ‘Guys, we gotta run it. At least if we don’t get five yards, at least I know we’re going to overtime. We’ll let it run down to 15 seconds or whatever and punt.”

Deebo Samuel instead ran for a first down to put the 49ers in field goal range for Robbie Gould to make a 45-year field goal for the win.

Aaron Rodgers plans to decide his future with the Green Bay Packers by the start of free agency following their playoff exit at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers. Rodgers didn't decide to return to the Packers this season until right before training camp opened in July. 

"I'm still super competitive, still know I can play at a high level, so it's going to be a tough decision," Rodgers said during a 17-minute session with reporters after the game. "I have a lot of things to weigh in the coming weeks. But man, just so much gratitude for this city and this organization and such a long, long career here that I'm proud of and really thankful for all the men and women that work here, the men I've gotten to cross paths with, coaches and players over the years."

At $44.8 million over the salary cap for 2022, the Packers may not be able to have as strong of a team around Rodgers as they did in 2021.

"That's a fair question -- definitely one I've thought about," Rodgers said. "But there are a lot of decisions to be made and key players ... So many guys' contracts are up or on the brink or salary cap stuff, so lot of decisions to be made. I don't want to be part of a rebuild if I'm going to keep playing, so a lot of decisions in the next couple months."

The NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed to suspend daily COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated players, aligning them with protocols developed last month for vaccinated players and coaches.

Anyone who reports symptoms will be tested.

The NFL's most recent COVID-19 data release reported that 95% of players and nearly 100% of staff members are vaccinated. The change will apply to a small group of people.

There are approximately 12 unvaccinated players on the eight teams left in the playoffs, most notably Aaron Rodgers. 

Rodgers had a 90 day testing exemption following his positive case that was set to expire soon.

The San Francisco 49ers have asked Trey Lance to play the role of Aaron Rodgers in scout team practices this week.

"We need Trey to be very aggressive, let it rip," Kyle Shanahan said. "Hopefully if he does make some mistakes in practice, our defense will catch it and make him pay. But we need him to be aggressive in everything he does because Aaron doesn't miss many of those opportunities when they're presented to him."

Jimmy Garoppolo is set to play through a thumb and shoulder injury in Saturday's divisional playoff contest.

Lance has spent time during his rookie campaign attempting to imitate different quarterbacks during practice, from Kyler Murray to Kirk Cousins and now Rodgers. The rookie has said there is a benefit in his development from studying other quarterbacks in his practice role.

The 2021 NFL Divisional Round times and odds have been set following the Wild Card Round.

Aaron Rodgers doesn't expect his toe injury to be an issue in the postseason.

Rodgers, who had been getting regular pain-killing injections to make it through games, said he has not needed one recently. The Green Bay Packers quarterback expects the toe to be 100% after the team's first-round bye.

"I haven't taken one in a number of weeks now, so that's been the most encouraging thing," Rodgers said of injections.

"Got through last week without doing one. It was just a pretty standard shot in the toe, very painful, a numbing agent. That helped get me through the games. The whole goal was to be able to not have to do that. It's been a few games without doing that. So I'm feeling good, practiced today, close to 100% but think I should be 100% by next week."
