Aaron Rodgers: Guys 'Making Too Many Mistakes' Should Sit

Oct 26, 2022 9:04 AM

Aaron Rodgers believes mental mistakes have led to the Green Bay Packers' three-game losing streak, which has the team at 3-4.

"We had so many mental errors and mistakes," Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show. "It's not the kind of football we're used to playing over the years. There have definitely been seasons where we average four or five, six, maybe seven at the most, kind of mental errors or missed assignments per week. Some weeks you have like four, two sometimes. This season there's a lot more of that every single week. It's double digits every single week. Even on the game, we had like 50 plays or something -- there wasn't a ton of plays, they had 37 minutes time of possession -- a lot of mistakes."

The Packers are averaging 17 offensive points per game this season, the fewest through the first seven games in Rodgers' career.

"Guys who are making too many mistakes shouldn't be playing, you know. Gotta start cutting some reps, and maybe guys who aren't playing, give them a chance," he said.

Aaron Rodgers: 'I'm Not Worried' About Season

Oct 24, 2022 1:39 AM

Three straight losses and with perhaps their most dangerous opponent next up on the schedule seemingly has the Green Bay Packers' season slipping away.

Or maybe Sunday's 23-21 loss to the Washington Commanders, which featured more of the Packers' season-long struggles on offense and dropped them to 3-4, was the worst of it.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers believes it could be the latter even if he wasn't able to provide much concrete evidence to support it.

Whatever the reason, the struggling four-time NFL MVP insisted this season feels like it can be saved.

Aaron Rodgers Expects Packers To 'Be In The Mix' At Trade Deadline

Oct 19, 2022 10:00 AM

Aaron Rodgers has been given more input on personnel decisions with the Green Bay Packers since the start of last season.

"Brian and I have a real good relationship," Rodgers said of Packers GM Brian Gutekunst on The Pat McAfree Show. "We communicate often about a number of different things, not just personnel stuff, but also the team and direction, mindset and energy and how everybody's kind of fitting together."

Rodgers added that he has had conversations with Green Bay front office ahead of the trade deadline. The Packers are a disappointing 3-3 after this past Sunday's loss to the New York Jets. The NFL's trade deadline in Nov. 1.

"I trust that they'll be in the mix on certain guys that they like," Rodgers said. "As always, it comes down to need price cost of those certain players, but I know Brian's going to do what's best for our football team and if he feels like adding a guy or two to the mix, then I'm sure he's going to try and make that happen."

Randall Cobb Out Multiple Weeks With Ankle Injury

Oct 18, 2022 9:11 AM

The Green Bay Packers will be without Randall Cobb for multiple weeks because of an ankle injury.

Cobb suffered the injury in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the New York Jets.

"It's not going to be like a one-week deal or anything like that; I think he's going to miss some time," Matt LaFleur said. "But he definitely avoided a serious injury."

It's possible the Packers could place Cobb on injured reserve, which would mean he'd miss at least four games.

Aaron Rodgers: 'Simplify Some Things' To Fix Offense

Oct 16, 2022 11:26 PM

Aaron Rodgers thinks there's a way to fix the Green Bay Packers' offense.

"Simplify some things," Rodgers said.

At this point, Rodgers said the Packers need to try something. And it's not just because of Sunday's 27-10 loss to the New York Jets during which they were repeatedly booed at Lambeau Field.

It has been six weeks' worth of offensive struggles. The Packers have scored 107 points (or 17.8 per game) so far this season.

Brett Favre Denies Wrongdoing In Welfare Case, Blames Media

Oct 12, 2022 8:37 AM

Brett Favre is denying any wrongdoing in a sprawling welfare investigation in Mississippi, according to a statement.

"I have been unjustly smeared in the media," Favre said in the statement. "I have done nothing wrong, and it is past time to set the record straight.

"No one ever told me, and I did not know, that funds designated for welfare recipients were going to the University or me. I tried to help my alma mater USM [University of Southern Mississippi], a public Mississippi state university, raise funds for a wellness center. My goal was and always will be to improve the athletic facilities at my university."

According to a Mississippi state audit, $77 million in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families funds were diverted from the poorest people in America's poorest state toward rich and powerful Mississippians.

Six people have been arrested in the case. Favre has not been criminally charged but is a defendant in a civil lawsuit filed by the state.

His alma mater, Southern Miss, received $5 million in TANF money, transferred from the Department of Human Services to a nonprofit and, eventually, to USM's Athletic Foundation, the audit said. A volleyball facility, Wellness Center, was later built on campus.

Text messages show Favre pushed for funding for a volleyball facility when his daughter was on the team.

Aaron Rodgers Would Have Preferred To Have More Time In London

Oct 6, 2022 8:31 AM

Aaron Rodgers has welcomed the Green Bay Packers' game against the New York Giants in London this week.

Rodgers would have preferred to have more time in London as the team prepares for Sunday morning's tilt. Matt LaFleur has decided to do most of the Packers' prep work in Green Bay.

"Listen, coaches are creatures of habit, even more than players," Rodgers said. "Anytime there's a minute adjustment to the schedule, it throws them all out of whack. So I wouldn't read too much into that.

"We're all excited. I think the reason I said I wanted to go over early was just to experience a little bit of that culture, to be able to get out and see some sights and interact with fans and ... shoot, go to a pub and have a Guinness or whatever the local brew is. That's what we all want to do, those of us that want to go over early."

The Packers won't leave until late afternoon or early evening Thursday.

That means the Packers will fly overnight. By the time they arrive in London, it will be Friday morning. They have a practice scheduled for 1:15 p.m. London time on Friday.

"Obviously the time we're leaving might put a little stress on the schedule," Rodgers said. "But that's way down at the bottom of the concerns."

Aaron Rodgers: Similarities Between Christian Watson, Davante Adams

Oct 5, 2022 9:08 AM

Christian Watson has had a slow start to his rookie season, something Aaron Rodgers has seen before.

"Look, I tell you, he's got special speed. He really does. He's got incredible stride length," Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show.

"When you watch some of the film back, it's similar to watching Davante [Adams] his rookie year. You know there were games where I didn't give Davante a ton of looks, but you go back and watch the film, and you're thinking, 'Man, this guy is open often.' It's like that from time to time with Christian. There's a few routes, I mean not as much as Davante, I just think Davante was a little more polished route-runner as a rookie, but there are a few times where I might need to give him a second look even when things don't look great from the start because he does have that different type of speed. But we're finding ways to use him, I think, and again, we have to have patience."

Watson has six catches for 51 yards and a rushing score in three games played.

Adams had 12 games as a rookie in which he caught two or fewer passes.

Aaron Rodgers: This Way Of Winning Not 'Sustainable'

Oct 3, 2022 8:43 AM

The Green Bay Packers edged the New England Patriots 27-24 in overtime on Sunday, but Aaron Rodgers didn't come away very impressed.

The Patriots were forced to go with third-string quarterback Bailey Zappe, a rookie, for much of the game at Lambeau Field.

"This way of winning, I don't think, is sustainable because it puts too much pressure on our defense," Rodgers said. "And obviously, I've got to play better and will play better."

Green Bay is 3-1 heading into next Sunday's game against the New York Giants in London.

"You can't be 2-2 losing to a third-string quarterback and not playing great in all three phases, so we had to have this one," Rodgers said. "That doesn't take anything away from the joy of winning, but this was one we had to have."
