Packers Restructure Aaron Jones, Clear $3M In Cap Space

Feb 25, 2022 8:33 AM

The Green Bay Packers have restructured the contract of Aaron Jones just a year after signing him to a four-year, $48 million extension.

Jones is due $8.9 million this year, which is double his cap number from last season.

The Packers have converted $3.85 million of his pay into a signing bonus, while adding two voidable years to his deal, to create just over $3 million in 2022 cap space.

The running back will remain under contract through 2024.

Packers GM: Never Promised To Trade Aaron Rodgers

Feb 24, 2022 8:59 AM

Brian Gutekunst says he never promised Aaron Rodgers he would trade him after the 2021 season.

When Rodgers returned to the Green Bay Packers last July from his offseason hiatus, both sides made it easier to separate this offseason based on adjustments to his contract.

It has been widely believed that Rodgers and the Packers had a handshake agreement that if the quarterback still wanted out after the 2021 season they would trade him.

"That was not something I told him," Gutekunst, who has full control over roster moves, said. "Again, I think the whole conversation with Aaron last season before he came back was that, regardless, at the end of this past season, that we would sit down as a group and we would work it out one way or another."

Aaron Rodgers Explains IG Post, Has No News On Future

Feb 24, 2022 9:12 AM

Aaron Rodgers said Tuesday that he did not have any news to report or a decision made about whether he will play in 2022.

While appearing on "The Pat McAfee Show," Rodgers attempted to explain a social media post on Monday night that appeared to reflect on the quarterback's lengthy career.

"There's nothing cryptic about gratitude," Rodgers said.

"You've got to kind of turn everything else off, so you're not working out, you're not straining or anything. It's kind of a re-centering. It not only heals you physically, but I think it takes away mental stress and then the spiritual part I think is it allows you to kind of enjoy the meditations a little more, so when I come out, my first thought is intense gratitude for the people in my life," he said.

His 41-minute appearance on the show was more about reflection than looking toward the future, although Rodgers said he had "a few more things to contemplate but it won't be long" before he decides whether to play in 2022 and if so, if it's for the Green Bay Packers.

Aaron Rodgers Posts Vague Message About Future On Social Media

Feb 23, 2022 8:25 AM

Aaron Rodgers posted a vague message about his football future on Instagram on Monday night.

Posted as "Monday Night Gratitude," Rodgers opened the post by thanking Shailene Woodley, to whom he was engaged and with whom he reportedly has split, before moving to professional relationships.

He thanked a number of teammates specifically, including Randall Cobb and David Bakhtiari.

On its own the post means nothing, but in the context of the decision he's in the process of making, it might mean a lot. While accepting the NFL MVP on February 10, Rodgers said the decision on his future would be coming soon.

Packers Hire Aaron Rodgers Favorite Tom Clements As Quarterbacks Coach

Feb 20, 2022 1:38 AM

The Green Bay Packers have hired Tom Clements as quarterbacks coach.

Clements is long credited for his development during the early portion of Rodgers' NFL career.

Clements was with the Packers from 2006-16. He was most recently the Cardinals quarterbacks coach but retired following the 2020 season.

Even though it's been more than five years since he worked with Clements, Rodgers still regularly brings him up when he talks about the keys to playing the position.

Rodgers won his second straight MVP last week.

The future of Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers is uncertain for a second consecutive offseason.
