Rodgers, McCarthy Have Heated Exchange Over Play-Calling

Oct 19, 2014 4:50 PM

Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy had a heated exchange during the Green Bay Packers' Week 3 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Rodgers and McCarthy were seen arguing in the second quarter after a seven-play drive stopped on the Bengals' one-yard line.

"We're both passionate about the game, and competitive," Rodgers said after the loss. "We want to win very badly and, you know, I went over and talked to him after that. Just got on the same page. Needed to talk; we did, and we moved on."

Rodgers confirmed that play-calling was the issue.

The NFL has fined Clay Matthews $15,000 for his late hit on Colin Kaepernick in Week 1.

Packers To Test Griffin's Mobility

Aug 5, 2014 3:58 AM

The Green Bay Packers will test the mobility of Robert Griffin III during their Week 2 game.

“We have a lot of respect for his ability,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday. “Whether we feel he’s as mobile, that’s really with the schemes and really the mindset going into the game that is applied during the course of the week.”

The Packers contained the running of Colin Kaepernick in Week 2, but he threw for 412 yards.

“Kaepernick and RG III are about the same,” Packers defensive end C.J. Wilson said. “We know RG III is still coming off an injury on his leg, so I don’t think he’s going to be too mobile like he used to be in the past. But he makes the throws like Kaepernick.”

Harbaugh: Clay Matthews Works Hard On Being Tough Guy

Oct 31, 2014 12:38 PM

Jim Harbaugh suggested Clay Matthews' image took a hit following his late hit on Colin Kaepernick that escalated when Joe Staley came to defense of his quarterback.

“I could see two punches thrown to Joe’s head -- well, one punch and one open slap, which . . . if you’re going to go to the face, come with some knuckles. I think that young man works very hard on being a tough guy. He’ll have some repairing to do to his image after the slap.”

Harbaugh said the play evoked memories of Hall of Fame defensive back Emlen Tunnell, who played for the New York Giants from 1948 to ’58 during a time when that play was commonplace.

“Back when that was legal, he would stand in the middle of the field and wait for receivers to cross and he’d clothesline them and their feet would fly up the air and their backs would hit the ground,” Harbaugh said.

NFL: Staley Should Not Have Been Penalized

May 18, 2014 4:49 AM

The NFL admitted that the offsetting penalties on Clay Matthews' late hit on Colin Kaepernick and Joe Staley's retaliation should have still allowed the result of the down to take place instead of replaying it, which led to a San Francisco 49ers' touchdown.

But the NFL said that Staley should not have been penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct.

"Joe did exactly what we coach him to do," Jim Harbaugh said. "When somebody's taking a cheap shot or trying to do something after the whistle, we teach them just to lock up. He did that, and then Matthews throws two punches at him."

Boldin: We Scouted Green Bay The Entire Offseason

May 17, 2014 11:27 PM

Anquan Boldin caught 13 balls for 208 yards and a touchdown in the San Francisco 49ers' Week 1 win over the Green Bay Packers.

“We scouted Green Bay the entire offseason,’’ Boldin said. “We got some looks we thought we’d get. All through the offseason and in training camp, when I was working with Colin (Kaepernick), we’d constantly be communicating. What are we seeing here, when am I breaking off what route. I’ve never been a guy who relied on my speed anyway, but I know how to get open. And Colin and I have developed a good relationship, so it doesn’t feel like we’re new to each other at all.’’
