Packers Consider Franchise Tag On Greg Jennings

Oct 23, 2014 9:50 AM

The Green Bay Packers are considering using their franchise tag on Greg Jennings.

The tag would cost $10.4 million for the 2013 season.

The Packers had been widely expected to part ways with Jennings.

Jennings has been interested in reuniting with former Packers' offensive coordinator Joe Philbin with the Miami Dolphins.

The Packers are also interested in re-signing Jennings if he lowers his contract demands.

Packers Send Defensive Coaches To College To Figure Out Read Option

May 18, 2014 5:39 AM

The Green Bay Packers are sending their defensive coaches to Texas A&M to study the read-option offense to figure out how to counter it.

The 49ers gained 579 yards against the Packers in their playoff game.

“Five hundred seventy-nine, that’s a number that will stick in our focus as a defense throughout the offseason. We’re studying the read option, the teams that are doing it in the NFL,” Mike McCarthy said. “We’re even going to the college ranks, we’ll have a couple college coaches come in, spend some time with our staff. Actually, our defensive staff is going to take a trip to Texas A&M, Kevin Sumlin is someone I have great respect for and with his ability to share from both the offensive side and the defensive side his experience in the read option. It’s something from an education, preparation standpoint that we will grow as a staff and be better prepared for in the future.”

Finley Sees Remaining With Packers As 50/50 Proposition

May 17, 2014 10:49 PM

Jermichael Finley would like to remain with the Green Bay Packers, though it is not yet clear if they will release him before his $3 million roster bonus is due.

“I would love to stay there,” Finley said, “but if Green Bay says otherwise, I play football for a living, so I’d have to switch gears and get ready for another chapter in my life.”

Finley is one of the most talented tight ends in the NFL, but has struggled with drops and injuries.

"It's the nature of the business," Finley said. "If there's a guy that's overpaid or that they think is overpaid, they'll ask for a pay cut. There's no doubt that I want to be there for life. But it's a business and the business will tell you otherwise. I would say on the business front, it's 50/50. But if it was up to me or anybody in my circle, I would love to be back."

Rodgers Monitoring Flacco's Contract Negotiations

Oct 23, 2014 9:50 AM

The Green Bay Packers will need to sign Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews to significant contract extensions.

Rodgers admitted that Joe Flacco's deal with the Baltimore Ravens will likely set a benchmark for him.

"I think everybody is going to see what Joe [Flacco] ends up signing for," Rodgers said.

Drew Brees signed a five-year, $100 million contract last offseason with the Saints.

"We'll get a deal done," Rodgers said. "I'm not worried about that."

Rodgers will likely eclipse the deal signed by Brees.

Rodgers Feels Time Right For Packers To Move Forward With Favre

May 24, 2014 12:59 PM

Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre had a scripted, onstage moment at their joint appearance at Saturday's NFL Honors event.

"As the face of the franchise now, (it's) a role that I take very seriously. I have the responsibility and enjoy having the opportunity to represent my team," Rodgers said. "I think it's important to realize that it is time to probably time to move forward."

Rodgers and Favre hadn't really talked since the latter came out of retirement in 2008, but had phone conversations last week.

"They pitched to me this idea of presenting with Brett, just to see how I would feel about it. And I thought about it for a little bit, but I really felt strongly that it was going to be a good thing for both of us and for Packer Nation," Rodgers said.

"Brett is two years removed from the game, and he's going to be obviously going to be in the Packers Hall of Fame, he'll get his number retired and will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the next few years. It's important, I think, to make sure that he's recognized for all the accomplishments he's achieved in our organization especially, he's very dear to many of our fans still and the things he's done on the field for the Packers, you can never take that away. As the face of the franchise, I felt like it was important that I take a leadership role in that – not that one was needed now, but I thought it was good timing to just let the fans know, let Brett know, let's move forward. Let's heal things up and let's move forward."
