George McCaskey addressed the Chicago Bears' players on Wednesday and told them coach Matt Nagy would not be fired after Thursday's game in Detroit.

McCaskey's message to the team capped a tumultuous week when Nagy's job status came under extreme scrutiny after a report Tuesday on Patch.com that claimed the Bears had already informed Nagy that Thanksgiving's game vs. the Lions would be his last, regardless of the outcome.

Losers of five straight, the Bears enter the Lions game at 3-7 and outside of the NFC playoff picture.

Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy denied a report that he had been informed he would be fired after Thursday's game against the Detroit Lions, saying he has not spoken to the team's leadership about his job status.

"That is not accurate," Nagy said Tuesday afternoon during a 10-minute meeting with reporters focused largely on a Patch.com report that quoted a "top source."

Nagy said he has not spoken to owner George McCaskey, team president Ted Phillips or general manager Ryan Pace this week.

The Chicago Bears are expected to start Andy Dalton in Week 12 with Justin Fields dealing with bruised ribs.

The Bears are set to face the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving.

In four games this season, Dalton has completed 48 of 73 passes (65.8%) for 471 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Justin Fields left Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens with an injury to his ribs.

Initial tests did not reveal any broken ribs, but the rookie quarterback will undergo more tests on Monday, according to a source.

Andy Dalton replaced Fields and quickly threw a 60-yard touchdown to Darnell Mooney.

The Bears don't have much time to assess Fields with a game against the Detroit Lions coming on Thanksgiving.

Khalil Mack will undergo season-ending surgery on his foot.

Mack suffered the injury in Week 3 and initially played through it before sitting beginning in Week 8.

Mack has historically had great durability in his career.

Matt Nagy has returned to the Chicago Bears and is set to coach in Week 9 after a COVID-19 absence.

Nagy was replaced by special teams coordinator Chris Tabor during the club's Week 8 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Ironically, the Bears enjoyed one of their best offensive performances of the year in Nagy's absence, scoring more points (22) than at any point since Week 4.
