The Chicago Bears are signing veteran kicker Cairo Santos to a four-year, $16 million extension that includes $9.5 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday.

Santos, 32, has served as the Bears' kicker since the 2020 season. He has made 104 of 114 field goal attempts in that span, including 27 of 29 this season. His 30 field goals made in 2020 were a franchise record.

The Chicago Bears and Jaylon Johnson failed to agree on a contract extension earlier this season, but the cornerback still wants to remain with the franchise.

"I want to stay here," Johnson said. "I definitely want to get something done [with Chicago] first but at the end of the day, if something doesn't get done, I'm not opposed to any other options. But I would love to stay here, so that's that.

"I feel like we're building something special, too, especially the guys in the locker room. It's something that I don't think I can get anywhere else. I would like to stay in that and continue to build, make it better."

Johnson, 24, requested permission to seek a trade after not receiving an extension ahead of the NFL's trade deadline on Oct. 31. 

Ryan Poles said he did not want to lose Johnson and requested that the compensation the team would have received had a trade been agreed upon be "a late first and into early second [round draft pick]."

"That didn't happen," Poles said in November. "We are still open to getting a contract done. I know we're going to follow Jaylon's lead on how he wants to go about doing that but we're still open."

The Chicago Bears could be in the market for a quarterback this coming offseason, but D.J. Moore doesn't want them to be.

The Bears own the Carolina Panthers' 2024 first-round pick, which is currently first overall.

Moore believes the Bears already have their quarterback of the future in Justin Fields. Asked after Sunday's loss to the Cleveland Browns about the possibility of drafting a quarterback, Moore sounded shocked that anyone would doubt Fields is the right man for the job.

"Somebody asked me that last week. I'm still like, where are you all seeing this?" Moore said. "What makes him not the quarterback for the Chicago Bears right now?"

Justin Fields threw for 233 yards and ran for another 58 as the Chicago Bears beat the Detroit Lions 28-13 on Sunday.

"There were a few throws I missed," Fields said. "There were multiple plays during the game where we could have executed better. . . . The third downs and just the throws downfield, of course — there were a couple that I wanted back. But we won the game, and [there's] still room to get better, so that’s just the hope for the future."

Fields' future with the Bears will be a hot topic over the next few months.

Jim Harbaugh is dealing with controversy at the University of Michigan, but that hasn't kept NFL teams from showing interest in hiring him.

According to a report, Harbaugh is drawing interest from the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers.

"(Panthers owner David) Tepper and Harbaugh had conversations last year," Dianna Russini said in her report.

"It obviously didn't pan out, but this was something that they discussed. ... That's a name I'm hearing again. The Chicago Bears are another organization ... (that has) had some conversations about that, depending on what decision they make with this coaching staff that is in place."
