ESPN Admits Mistake In Not Showing Brian Urlacher's Halftime Ceremony

Sep 19, 2018 8:26 AM

The Chicago Bears honored Brian Urlacher by presenting him with his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring during halftime of this week's Monday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Bears choose the date because they were hosting Monday Night Football, but ESPN didn't broadcast any of the ceremony.

"That was a miss," producer Jay Rothman told the Chicago Tribune. "We should have played it back. We did not play it back."

Rothman said he wishes he would have shown at least a short piece of the Urlacher ceremony at some point in the third quarter.

A musical performance was shown at halftime.

Derek Carr: Raiders Over Shock Of Khalil Mack Trade

Sep 4, 2018 8:51 AM

Derek Carr didn't expect Khalil Mack to be traded, but the quarterback says the Oakland Raiders are over the shock of this past weekend's move.

"It isn't what anybody wanted -- I think that's clear," Carr said

The Raiders sent Mack and a second-round pick in 2020 and a 2020 conditional fifth-rounder to the Chicago Bears for first-round picks in 2019 and 2020, a sixth-rounder in 2019 and a third-rounder in 2020.

"But it is what it is -- it's part of the business," Carr added. "It's one of those sucky things that happen. The hardest part for me is, obviously, you lose a good football player, but he's my brother, man. He's one of my best friends. I think the hardest part is, I don't get to see my friend every day."

Both Carr and Mack were drafted by the Raiders in 2014.

Jon Gruden: Khalil Mack's Price Was Too High

Sep 3, 2018 9:06 AM

Jon Gruden has acknowledged that Khalil Mack's contract demands were too large for the Oakland Raiders, and the trade offer they received from the Chicago Bears was too enticing to pass up.

Gruden did, however, dispute the notion that he wanted to trade Mack, while Reggie McKenzie wanted to re-sign him.

"They're trying to divide us," Gruden said. "People are trying to divide us: 'I wanted him gone, he wanted him here.' We made a decision as an organization. [Owner] Mark Davis, [executive] Tom Delaney, we all got the information and we made a decision, together. And I'll just say what [Reggie] said -- I read what he said yesterday -- it's a decision that we all came to.

"I know there's maybe some feeling that maybe I was involved in a day-to-day negotiation. I had nothing to do with it. We were at a standoff and something had to happen, and here we are."

Mack was under contract and due to make $13.8 million this season on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal. The Raiders could have used the franchise tag on him next season.

Sep 3, 2018 9:58 AM

The Chicago Bears have given Khalil Mack a record-setting six-year, $141 million contract extension, according to a source.

The Bears acquired Mack in a trade with the Oakland Raiders on Saturday.

He is now the highest-paid defender in NFL history. The deal, which averages $23.5 million per season, includes $90 million in guaranteed money and $60 million at signing, the source said.

Bears Agree To Acquire Khalil Mack From Raiders

Sep 2, 2018 11:10 AM

The Chicago Bears have agreed to acquire Khalil Mack from the Oakland Raiders.

The details of the deal are still being finalized but the Bears will send at least two first round picks.

Other teams made enticing offers of multiple picks, but the Bears were willing to offer the most.

Oakland exercised the fifth-year option on Mack's contract last summer, worth $13.846 million. If he had played under those terms this season, the Raiders could have used a franchise tag on Mack in 2019, barring an impasse.
