Washington Ends Baltimore's 24-Game Preseason Win Streak

Aug 22, 2023 8:30 AM

The Baltimore Ravens lost to the Washington Commanders 29-28 on Monday night, ending the team's 24-game preseason winning streak.

Joey Slye's 49-yard field goal with 9 seconds remaining clinched the victory for the Commanders. The Ravens hadn't lost in the preseason since 2015.

"The thing about something like that -- I just told our guys -- you're proud of it and you appreciate it," John Harbaugh said. "But the thing that you're proud of is all those games are mostly like that."

Harbaugh later added, "It's one of these things you look at and you go, 'Wow, how did that happen? How did something like that take place?' It's pretty remarkable. What are the odds?"

Ravens Sign Jadeveon Clowney

Aug 18, 2023 1:19 PM

The Baltimore Ravens have signed Jadeveon Clowney.

Clowney, who turned 30 in February, played for the Cleveland Browns the past two seasons, signing back-to-back one-year contracts.

Clowney had just two sacks in 2022 after nine in 2021. Clowney was critical of teammates Myles Garrett late last season and was sent home for the end of the season.

"You're all trying to get [Garrett] into the Hall of Fame instead of winning games," Clowney told the newspaper. "I don't even think [Garrett] notices. I ain't trying to say it's him. I try to get along with everybody I play with. Me and him don't have a problem. It ain't his fault, and it's B.S., and I don't have time for it."

Ravens OC Using Plays Pitched By Lamar Jackson

Aug 16, 2023 7:58 AM

Lamar Jackson appears to have more freedom and input under new Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

In addition to giving Jackson the leeway to audible, the Ravens are using plays that Jackson has sent to the coaching staff.

"I was just on social media, and I saw a couple of routes, and I sent it to [quarterbacks] Coach Tee [Martin] and he was like, 'I'm going to relay the message to Coach [Todd] Monken,'" Jackson said. "Coach Monken liked the play, so he put it in practice. We didn't show it today, but I feel like it will be good for us."

The Ravens gave Jackson a new five-year, $260 million deal this offseason, while also adding weapons in Odell Beckham, Jr., Zay Flowers and Nelson Agholor.

Earlier this month, Monken said he's a firm believer that you need "to empower" your quarterback for him to play his best.

Former NFL RB Alex Collins Dies At 28 In Motorcycle Crash

Aug 15, 2023 8:24 AM

Former NFL running back Alex Collins died after he was involved in a motorcycle crash in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, on Sunday night, the Broward County Sheriff's Office said.

Collins, who was 28, crashed into a sport-utility vehicle on West Oakland Park Boulevard.

The SUV was making a left turn when Collins' motorcycle hit its rear passenger side, causing him to go through a window and come to rest inside the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A fifth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2016, Collins was released a year later and became one of the biggest surprises of the 2017 Baltimore Ravens.

He led Baltimore with 973 yards rushing and six touchdowns, celebrating each score with an Irish dance that he learned from the daughter of his high school football coach.

Melvin Gordon On RBs: 'We're Kind Of Screwed'

Aug 9, 2023 8:34 AM

Melvin Gordon has become the latest veteran running back to voice displeasure over the position not getting paid like others in the NFL.

"We're kind of screwed, I feel like, for the next couple years," Gordon said, alluding to the fact that the CBA runs through 2030. "So, the only thing we could do is just kind of stack it and just ball out."

Gordon signed a one-year, $1.165 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens just before the start of training camp.

"At the end of the day, the talking and this and that is not going to get anything done," he said. "I think we just have to shine in the brightest moments when we get to the playoffs. The backs that are on that team got to take initiative to be like -- you know what -- I'm going to take over."
