Patriots Won't Pursue Lamar Jackson

Mar 29, 2023 11:05 AM

The New England Patriots will not pursue a trade for Lamar Jackson, a source told Jeff Howe of The Athletic

The Baltimore Ravens placed the $32.4 million franchise tag on Jackson.

If the Patriots signed Jackson to an offer sheet, they would ship their next two first-round draft picks to Baltimore if the Ravens didn’t match the terms. The Patriots would also have to sign Jackson to a long-term contract. Jackson is seeking a fully guaranteed deal.

New England will start Mac Jones at quarterback in 2023, but Bailey Zappe will push Jones.

Colts Will Consider Trading For Lamar Jackson

Mar 28, 2023 8:34 AM

At the very least, the Indianapolis Colts will consider trading for Lamar Jackson.

Jackson revealed on Monday that he requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens earlier this month.

Chris Ballard confirmed the team's interest in the quarterback at the NFL's annual league meeting, saying that Indianapolis has to consider all options to fix the position, which has been in flux since Andrew Luck's retirement in 2019.

Jackson was given the nonexclusive franchise tag by the Ravens but is free to negotiate with other teams.

"Anytime a special player is available, which he is, you've got to do the work," Ballard said. "I'm not going to get into deep discussions on where it's at or what we're doing or what we might do. But what I'll tell you is he's a really good player, really special player. But you never know how any of this will work out."

League Warns Teams To Negotiate Only With Lamar Jackson

Mar 24, 2023 8:44 AM

The NFL distributed a league-wide memo on Thursday that added drama to the Lamar Jackson saga.

The league sent a memo to all teams notifying them that a person not certified by the NFLPA might be attempting to persuade club personnel to enter into negotiations with Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback who received the nonexclusive franchise tag.

Under league rules, teams can speak only with Jackson because he doesn't have an agent.

Ozzie Newsome: Ravens' Owner Said Watson Contract Created Problems

Mar 23, 2023 8:52 AM

Ozzie Newsome has acknowledged that the Baltimore Ravens see Deshaun Watson's contract as a stumbling block to getting things done with Lamar Jackson.

Newsome, who was the Ravens' general manager for 17 years before stepping back to the Executive V.P. role in 2019, said on the Bernie Kosar Show that Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti views the Watson contract with the Cleveland Browns as a problem.

"Every club has to do what they have to do with contracts," Newsome said. "I don't worry about what other people do, but our owner did say that contract did create some problems. We have to figure out if that's going to be the norm or is that an outlier. We don't know."

Bisciotti and other NFL owners don't want to see Watson's contract become the norm, and the NFL Players Association has accused the owners of colluding to prevent fully guaranteed contracts from becoming the norm.

Colts Haven't Ruled Out Move For Lamar Jackson

Mar 23, 2023 8:48 AM

The Indianapolis Colts haven't ruled out having discussions with Lamar Jackson, according to a source.

However, the team has not taken any substantive steps regarding Jackson and it is unclear whether it intends to do so.

"When you're changing quarterbacks every year, it's tough," Chris Ballard admitted after last season. "It's tough on everybody."

Report: Rep For Lamar Jackson Telling Teams He's Ready To Move On

Mar 22, 2023 8:58 AM

With Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens still at a stalemate, a representative for the quarterback has begun contacting teams in an effort to create a possible landing spot, according to a report.

The representative, who isn't believed to be certified by the NFLPA, is telling teams that Jackson is ready to move on from the Ravens.

Jackson is reportedly seeking a non-guaranteed contract worth at least $200 million.

Since they placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on him, the Ravens can match any offer and would receive two first-round picks if they decide not to match.

Lamar Jackson Now Free To Talk With Other Teams

Mar 15, 2023 8:10 PM

Lamar Jackson is now a free agent, of sorts, now that the new NFL league year has begun.

As a player subject to the non-exclusive franchise tag, Jackson can speak to any teams that possess their original first-round picks for 2023 and 2024.

Jackson can go to one of those teams, negotiate and sign an offer sheet with one of them, giving the Baltimore Ravens five business days to match.

If the Ravens don't match, the new team surrenders the 2023 and 2024 first-round picks to Baltimore and gets Jackson.

Lamar Jackson Says He Turned Down $133M Fully Guaranteed Deal

Mar 14, 2023 4:05 PM

Lamar Jackson has broken the silence regarding his contract talks with the Baltimore Ravens.

In response to a tweet about a reported contract offer, Jackson insinuated that he turned down a three-year, $133 million fully guaranteed contract.

Jackson added: "People throw (poop emoji) at the wall and hope it stick."

NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported that, based on his understanding, the $133 million fully guaranteed was part of a more extensive five-year offer, meaning there were other non-guaranteed years on top.
