Tua Tagovailoa Taken To Hospital With Head, Neck Injuries

Sep 30, 2022 9:10 AM

Tua Tagovailoa was taken to a local hospital with head and neck injuries suffered on a second-quarter sack in Thursday night's game between the Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals.

Tagovailoa hit the back of his head on the ground when he was sacked by Josh Tupou. His arms appeared to seize up almost immediately.

He remained on the field for roughly 10 minutes before he was loaded onto a stretcher and taken away.

The Dolphins said just before halftime that he was conscious and had movement in all his extremities at the hospital. After the game, they said Tagovailoa was expected to be released from the hospital Thursday night and travel back to Miami with the team.

Mike McDaniel said Tagovailoa called for him when he went down.

"I could tell it wasn't the same guy that I was used to seeing," McDaniel said. "It was a scary moment. He was evaluated for a concussion. He's in the concussion protocol, but he's being discharged.

"It's an emotional moment. It's not a part of the deal you sign up for. His teammates and myself were very concerned, but he got checked out and it's nothing more serious than a concussion."

Chargers' Joey Bosa To Have Surgery, Goes On IR

Sep 29, 2022 8:27 AM

The Los Angeles Chargers have placed Joey Bosa and Rashawn Slater on injured reserve.

Bosa suffered a groin tear in Week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The edge rusher will undergo surgery, but Brandon Staley said it's anticipated that he will return this season.

"It's going to be a ways, but we expect him to come back," Staley said. "He's optimistic and ready to attack it. He's in a really good frame of mind. It's never easy when you have an injury like that."

At left tackle, Slater tore his left biceps tendon, causing him to undergo season-ending surgery.

Dak Prescott Dealing With Swelling, No Timeline To Start Throwing

Sep 28, 2022 9:17 AM

Dak Prescott had stitches removed from his surgically repaired right thumb on Monday but won't start throwing immediately due to swelling.

"He still has some swelling that he has to deal with," Mike McCarthy said. "Once he gets past the swelling and the strengthening stage, then he'll get to the point where he'll be able to throw. He'll be dealing with more rehab this week and hopefully we'll get the swelling and the strength where it needs to be. But I do not have a timeline on when he'll start throwing."

There had been some speculation that Prescott could return for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4, but that appears to be a long shot at this point.

Mac Jones Will Likely Miss Multiple Games With Ankle Sprain

Sep 27, 2022 8:23 AM

Mac Jones is dealing with a severe high ankle sprain that would cause many to have surgery, according to sources.

The New England Patriots are likely to be without Jones for multiple games.

Jones suffered the injury late in Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

"I'm just going to take it day by day, get my treatment and do what I do. Just see how I feel," the second-year quarterback said. "If you have any more of those type questions, talk to Coach [Bill] Belichick. I think he likes those questions."

Brian Hoyer is the Patriots' top backup, and fourth-round draft pick Bailey Zappe out of Western Kentucky has been the No. 3 option.

Justin Herbert 'Didn't Want To Quit' In Loss To Jaguars

Sep 26, 2022 9:57 AM

Justin Herbert finished out the Los Angeles Chargers' 38-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday despite being just 10 days removed from suffering a fracture to his rib cartilage.

"He wanted to be out there with his teammates," Brandon Staley said of the decision to send Herbert out for the team's final offensive series. "He felt good and he wanted to finish the game."

Staley took 20 questions during a seven-minute and 30-second postgame news conference. More than half of the questions were about Herbert and the risk the franchise quarterback faced by remaining in the game.

"I understand your entire line of questioning, I understand it," Staley said. "Justin is going to be feeling like this when he is out there playing. This injury is going to be there for awhile. If you guys know the injury, it's not like it's going to feel better next week or the week after that. This thing is going to be present for awhile. He felt good today and we're going to continue to manage it the best we can."

Staley said he "definitely" had a conversation with Herbert about remaining in the game and confirmed that the quarterback was adamant that he wanted to continue.

"I just didn't want to quit on the team," Herbert said.

Sep 26, 2022 9:53 AM

The second-year quarterback will undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the diagnosis and determine its severity.

Initial tests revealed that the injury wasn't anything that would end his season, per a source.

The injury occurred on Jones' final pass attempt of the day, an interception late in the fourth quarter, when he was hit by Calais Campbell and immediately grabbed for his left ankle.
