Commanders' Rookie Brian Robinson Shot In Possible Robbery

Aug 29, 2022 8:44 AM

Washington Commanders rookie Brian Robinson was shot multiple times Sunday evening during a possible attempted robbery in Washington, D.C.

The running back was taken to a hospital with what the team called "non-life-threatening injuries."

"I just got done visiting w/Brian," Ron Rivera said in a tweet Sunday night. "He is in good spirits and wanted me to thank everyone for their kind words, prayers & support. He wants his teammates to know he appreciates them all for reaching out and he loves them all & will be back soon doing what he does best."

When police arrived on the scene they located Robinson, who was suffering from "a couple gunshot wounds to his lower extremities." He was transported immediately to a local hospital.

Panthers Expect Sam Darnold To Miss Significant Time With Ankle Sprain

Aug 28, 2022 1:23 PM

The Carolina Panthers expect to be without backup quarterback Sam Darnold for an extended period of time with what coach Matt Rhule described as a "significant" high ankle sprain suffered in Friday night's preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills.

The typical recovery time is four to six weeks.

"It is a significant injury that could take some time," Rhule said Saturday. "If it's at least a four-game injury, we can put him on the short-term injured reserve."

Jaguars' James Robinson 'So Close' To Week 1 Return

Aug 25, 2022 8:42 AM

James Robinson is on pace to return for the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders.

The running back suffered an Achilles tear late last season.

"I'm so close. And I know I can do more and they know I can do more, but we're just [gonna] keep taking it slow like I said before," Robinson said. "I'm just itching to get out there. I mean, seeing everybody running around and knowing I'm there but not yet. I mean, I'm not allowed to right now, but it is just itching at me a little bit."

Cowboys' Tyron Smith Suffers Torn Hamstring, Out Indefinitely

Aug 25, 2022 8:36 AM

Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith suffered a torn left hamstring in Wednesday's practice that could sideline him for multiple months, according to sources.

Smith was hurt on a running play and went to the ground as he went to make a block on Leighton Vander Esch.

The initial tests indicated the ACL in his left knee was intact.

The Cowboys drafted Tyler Smith in the first round to be the left tackle of the future and has used him exclusively at left guard during training camp and the first two preseason games.

Zach Wilson Will Start In Week 1 If Healthy

Aug 19, 2022 9:17 AM

The New York Jets are preparing to start Joe Flacco in Week 1, but Robert Saleh is refusing to rule out Zach Wilson, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery this week.

"I don't know if I have an opinion on that one," Saleh said, commenting on whether he expects to start Flacco against the Baltimore Ravens in the opener -- his first public remarks since Wilson's procedure. "If Zach is ready to play, he's going to be the Week 1 starter. If he's not, Joe will. That's no secret.

"We're going to take it by how Zach looks, how he feels, how he moves, what the doctors tell us. Whenever that moment is, he'll step on the field."

Wilson tore his meniscus and suffered a bone bruise last Friday night in a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Jets open the season in 24 days against the Baltimore Ravens. The initial timetable was two to four weeks, and there was no additional damage discovered in the arthroscopy, sources said.

Joe Burrow Says His Appendix Ruptured, Prompting Surgery

Aug 18, 2022 8:31 AM

Joe Burrow revealed Wednesday that his appendix ruptured, which prompted surgery on July 26.

The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback continued his progress on Wednesday when he took part in team drills at practice for the first time since the procedure.

"It wasn't normal appendicitis that you hear about," Burrow said. "I didn't really feel much. Just getting checked out and had some discomfort so we thought we'd get it checked out. Turns out I had it. So we had to get it fixed."

Zach Wilson's Knee Surgery Deemed Successful

Aug 17, 2022 8:31 AM

Zach Wilson's arthroscopic knee surgery was deemed a success, with no surprises from the original diagnosis, according to sources.

Wilson was diagnosed with a meniscus tear and a bone bruise after a non-contact injury last Friday night in the New York Jets' preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Sources originally indicated a two-to-four week recovery for the quarterback.

The meniscus required only a "trim," one source said -- as the Jets expected.

The New York Jets were noncommittal on a timetable for injured quarterback Zach Wilson, saying it depends on the outcome of arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday in Los Angeles.
