Justin Herbert suffered a rib injury in the Los Angeles Chargers' 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football.

With 5:09 left in the fourth quarter, Herbert took a hit from Mike Danna that left the quarterback lying on the field for an extended period. He missed one play before returning, and then was immediately hit hard by Frank Clark and George Karlaftis.

Herbert didn't speak to the media after the game because of the injury.

Brandon Staley initially downplayed any potential injury, saying, "It was just a tough NFL game and he took some big hits."

Asked whether he felt concerned about Herbert going forward, Staley said, "No. Because he's Justin Herbert."

Staley later said the Chargers likely will learn more Friday about the nature of any injury to Herbert.
