Mac Jones is dealing with a severe high ankle sprain that would cause many to have surgery, according to sources.

The New England Patriots are likely to be without Jones for multiple games.

Jones suffered the injury late in Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

"I'm just going to take it day by day, get my treatment and do what I do. Just see how I feel," the second-year quarterback said. "If you have any more of those type questions, talk to Coach [Bill] Belichick. I think he likes those questions."

Brian Hoyer is the Patriots' top backup, and fourth-round draft pick Bailey Zappe out of Western Kentucky has been the No. 3 option.
