Johnson: 'Fake Titan Fans' Should Shut Up
Chris Johnson seems to be finding out about the downside of Twitter during his contract holdout.
Johnson tweeted Wednesday that "fake Titan fans" should shut up. Fans are calling him greedy and saying his contract demands are too high.
Titans, Johnson Continue To Discuss Deal
The Titans and Pro Bowl running back Chris Johnson continue to discuss a long-term deal, according to sources.
The sides remain in close contact and are working toward an agreement that would end Johnson's holdout in time for him to play in Week 1 of the season.
They were at a stalemate after a face-to-face meeting last week, but continue conversations to the point where momentum toward a new deal could build considerably by the weekend.
Titans Put Chris Johnson On Did Not Report List
The Titans have placed running back Chris Johnson on the reserve/did not report list.
The move frees up an extra roster spot for the final preseason game.
The administrative move has no impact on contract talks with Johnson, who met with the Titans last week but remains a holdout.
Goodell Won't Punish Kenny Britt
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has told Kenny Britt and the Titans that he will not punish the wide receiver for his arrests during the lockout.
"The commissioner restated his expectation that Britt will be responsible for his actions going forward and noted that future incidents will lead to appropriate discipline," league spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed.
Britt has had seven incidents involving police.
Two arrests came during the lockout in his home state of New Jersey, with two arrest warrants in Tennessee for inaccurate information on his driver's license application.
Titans Add Kevin Curtis
The Titans have agreed to a contract with receiver Kevin Curtis.
Tennessee announced the deal Friday with the eight-year veteran who played last season with Miami.
Curtis has 253 catches for 3,297 yards and 20 touchdowns in 81 career games.
Titans Haven't Discussed Trading Chris Johnson
Coach Mike Munchak says the Titans haven't talked about trading Chris Johnson and the answer would be no if the running back asked for such a move.
"We would figure he's under contract for two years, he's going to be a Titan and we would hope a longer term than that," Munchak said Thursday. "But I don't think that's anything we would even give any consideration to. He's with us one way or another, and hopefully it ends up being on the field."
Chris Johnson To Work Out In Orlando
Running back Chris Johnson, back in Orlando after his meeting in Nashville on Wednesday with the Titans, said Thursday that he will continue to work out in Florida while his agent talks with the team.
Johnson has said he will not report until he gets a new deal even with two years' left on his contract and missed all of the Titans' camp, which wrapped Monday.
Johnson told The (Nashville) Tennessean that he and the team "are not seeing eye-to-eye right now" regarding his contract demands.
Titans: Talk With Johnson Was Beneficial
The Titans and running back Chris Johnson met on Wednesday, but no deal between the two sides was reached,
Still, the team said the meeting was "beneficial."
"It was important for us to have a face-to-face meeting so that everyone could have a voice and understand the perspective of the other side," general manager Mike Reinfeldt said in a statement.
"I'm not sure there was any progress made, but I do think it was beneficial to meet. We were able to discuss several different elements of a potential contract, but there was no agreement on those topics."
Titans, Johnson To Meet Wednesday
Titans running back Chris Johnson wrote on his Twitter page that he will meet with Tennessee general manager Mike Reinfeldt on Wednesday in Nashville.
"Flying out to Nashville tonight to meet with Joel and the GM in the morning to see which way were going. Could get better or worst," Johnson wrote.
The "Joel" he referred to is his agent, Joel Segal.
Johnson has spent his holdout primarily in his hometown of Orlando.
League sources have told ESPN insider Chris Mortensen that Johnson is seeking a deal that would pay him $39 million over the first three years, a $13 million average.
Britt, Talib To Meet With Goodell
Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt will meet Tuesday with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss his arrests during the lockout.
"I guess they finally found me," Britt said with a laugh. "But yeah, I heard from coach (Mike) Munchak, and we'll meet tomorrow and see what happens."
Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib will also meet with Goodell on Tuesday, according to league sources.
Talib was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Texas in March. He already was suspended one game last season for an altercation he had with a taxi driver.
