Young Questionable For Sunday

Jul 4, 2014 12:06 AM

Tennessee quarterback Vince Young will be day to day this week after reinjuring his right quadriceps muscle. His status for Sunday's AFC wild-card game with San Diego could be in question. "I can't really say right now if Vince is going to play this week," Coach Jeff Fisher said Monday. "I have a good feeling he'll be back on the practice field, and we'll see how he goes." Young missed a start Oct. 21 at Houston after straining his right quadriceps in Tampa on Oct. 14. He said he aggravated the muscle in the first half of Sunday night's 16-10 win at Indianapolis and tweaked it further in the third quarter.

NFL Denies Pacman's Appeal To Return In 2007

Jul 4, 2014 12:20 AM

The NFL rejected an appeal by the players' union Thursday on behalf of suspended Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell turned down Jones' request for leniency Nov. 6. The NFL Players' Association appealed that ruling as excessive and had a hearing by telephone Dec. 14. But Jones must serve the final two games of his season-long suspension. "Commissioner Goodell notified Adam Jones today that his suspension for the 2007 season will not be modified," the league said in a statement. "Once the Titans have concluded their 2007 season, Jones may begin limited activities at the club's facility and, assuming no further problems, will be eligible to participate fully in Tennessee's off-season workout program."

Two Titans Fined For Hits On Merriman

Oct 31, 2014 6:23 AM

The San Diego Chargers and Tennessee Titans disagreee on whether the Titans attempted to retalliate against Chargers' linebacker Shawne Merriman last Sunday for an earlier hit on Vince Young. But ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the NFL has weighed in -- and deemed that hits by Titans' tackle David Stewart and center Kevin Mawae merited discipline. Mortensen reports that the NFL fined Stewart $12,500 and Mawae $5,000 for late hits on Merriman, who suffered sprained knee ligaments and will miss this week's game against the Detroit Lions. Merriman was injured in the second quarter as he was blocked downfield by Mawae and Stewart.

Chargers: "Cheap Shot" On Merriman Intentional

Jul 4, 2014 12:02 AM

Chargers' linebacker Shawne Merriman will miss next week's game with a knee injury, and his teammates believe it's no accident. Merriman said a "cheap shot" led to his injury in Sunday's game at Tennessee, and the Pro Bowl linebacker told the San Diego Union-Tribune that several Chargers told him that Titans' Coach Jeff Fisher ordered a hit on him. "Plenty of people told me it was a coach down there telling them to go get at me," Merriman said. Merriman suffered a sprained ligament in his left knee against the Titans and will miss this Sunday's game against the Lions. Fisher dismissed Merriman's charges on Monday.

Titans' Haynesworth Misses Third Practice

Oct 23, 2014 8:25 AM

Titans' defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth sat out a third consecutive practice on Friday with his injured right hamstring and was inside performing conditioning exercises. Fisher said Haynesworth, who played last week for the first time since Nov. 4, will be a game-time decision because of swelling in the muscle. "We anticipated a setback and anticipated some soreness and some mild swelling, and that's what he has," Fisher said. "We're helping him to work through it right now." Wide receiver Brandon Jones was sent out for another examination of his groin injury, and will not play Sunday. Defensive tackle Tony Brown (knee) and guard Benji Olson (back) both practiced on Friday.

Titans' Safety Hope Out For Year With Spinal Injury

Oct 23, 2014 8:39 AM

Tennessee Titans' safety Chris Hope is out for the season after tests confirmed a spinal cord injury that requires rest and possibly surgery but is not expected to be career-ending. "After numerous studies and opinions, Chris Hope's season is over," Coach Jeff Fisher said on Friday. "The doctors are not going to allow and don't feel it's safe for him to finish the season." Hope has not played since he was injured Nov. 25, when his left arm and leg were twitching as he lay on the field after a helmet-to-helmet collision with teammate Sean Conover in the first quarter of a game at Cincinnati. "This is not a career-ending injury by any means," Fisher said. "We're going to continue to evaluate it. He may heal up as a result of rest, and we have not ruled out surgery as a possibility." Hope signed with the Titans in 2006 as an unrestricted free agent and has emerged as one of the leaders of Tennessee's defense. He had a team-high five interceptions in 2006 and picked off two passes this season along with 60 tackles.

Titans' Haynesworth Believes He'll Be Ready For Sunday

May 18, 2014 2:35 AM

Titans' defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth watched practice Wednesday, giving his sore right hamstring time to heal from his first game action after missing three straight weeks. Haynesworth said his hamstring was a little sore, which was to be expected. He said he thinks he will be good to play Sunday when San Diego (7-5) visits. "It's still sore, getting a little swollen. We're going to get it out of there. Hopefully, Friday we'll be able to practice," Haynesworth said. Right guard Benji Olson practiced Wednesday after missing the past three games with a back condition. Receiver Brandon Jones (groin) and safety Chris Hope (back) did not practice.

Young Rallies Titans Past Texans

Oct 23, 2014 8:39 AM

The Tennessee Titans didn't need Rob Bironas to beat the Houston Texans. This time, Vince Young took care of his hometown team. Young, who missed the previous matchup Bironas won with an NFL-record eight field goals, threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns in rallying the Titans to a 28-20 victory Sunday, snapping a three-game skid. The Titans (7-5) had defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth back after an injured hamstring kept him out three games. His return helped revive a defense coming off its worst performance of the season in a 35-6 loss at Cincinnati last week. But it was Titans' end Antwan Odom who knocked Matt Schaub out of the game for the second time this year, sacking him and hurting his left shoulder in the first quarter. By the time backup Sage Rosenfels settled in, it was too late for the Texans (5-7), who lost their second straight.
