Titans Need Malik Willis To 'Continue To Progress'

Dec 28, 2022 9:00 AM

The Tennessee Titans believe Malik Willis has shown signs of improvement in each of his first three starts.

"I think just overall just comfort level, being quicker with progression, not holding in, not waiting things out," Mike Vrabel said.

"Knowing that you don't have all day. Being good operationally. I thought he made some good decisions, some really good decisions to pull, when to give it, extend. I thought when he was decisive, he was able to get to some guys. Unfortunately, Chig (Chigoziem Okonkwo) put the one on the ground and dropped it, but he got to (Robert Woods) and he got to Nick (Westbrook-Ikhine) on third and long and he was able to get to Woods in his zone. So, there were some things there that were good, but obviously just want to continue to progress."

Per NFL Research, Willis is the first rookie QB to throw for less than 100 yards in each of his first three career starts since Doug Williams in 1978.

Vrabel noted that the rookie's leadership is growing each week as he becomes more comfortable in the offense.

"I thought it was good last week," Vrabel said. "I thought he was into it. I thought he controlled the operation in practice and everything else that we were doing and in meetings and on the field and then ultimately up into the game. The leadership and everything that's, you know, whether it's Malik or anybody else, we've always tried to say that there's no restrictions on leadership. We just ask everybody to know what to do and go out and play a certain way and prepare a certain way. When you do that, you're more than welcome to lead anybody you want."

Ryan Tannehill 'Very Likely' Out For Season With Ankle Injury

Dec 21, 2022 10:18 PM

Ryan Tannehill will "very likely" miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.

Tannehill suffered the injury on Sunday when Khalil Mack landed on his right foot.

Team trainers took Tannehill to the locker room on a cart. The quarterback missed only one offensive series and returned to the game with his right ankle heavily taped.

"We are never going to question his toughness or his willingness to get back and help us win," coach Mike Vrabel said of Tannehil.

Mike Vrabel On Titans Firing GM: We Have To Move Forward

Dec 8, 2022 8:29 AM

Mike Vrabel says the Tennessee Titans simply need to move forward after they fired general manager Jon Robinson earlier this week.

"Change is never easy but we realize that we all have a job to do," Vrabel said. "It's evaluated every day. I told the team and all of the staff this. We all have a personal relationship with Jon in some capacity. But personal feelings aren't important. We need to respect and understand the decision and move forward aligned."

Vrabel said that he and Robinson were aligned in their approach to building the roster.

Vice president of player personnel Ryan Cowden was selected to oversee the Titans' personnel department for the remainder of the season.

Titans Fire Jon Robinson As General Manager

Dec 6, 2022 12:21 PM

The Tennessee Titans have fired Jon Robinson as general manager. Robinson was hired as general manager in January 2016.

Vice President of Player Personnel Ryan Cowden will lead player personnel for the remainder of the season.

Statement from Amy Adams Strunk:

"Since becoming controlling owner in 2015, my goal has been to raise the standard for what is expected in all facets of our organization. I believe we have made significant progress both on and off the field through investments in leadership, personnel and new ideas. This progress includes the core of our business, the football team itself, which is regularly evaluated both by results (wins and losses) and team construction/roster building. I am proud of what we have accomplished in my eight seasons of ownership, but I believe there is more to be done and higher aspirations to be met.

"I want to thank Jon for his dedicated work to set this organization on an upward trajectory and I wish him and his family the best."
