Munchak Has Plan Ready For Titans

Sep 30, 2014 11:33 PM

As a former offensive lineman, Titans coach Mike Munchak can sit and watch film for days on end, a helpful quality as the NFL lockout just keeps going and going. Munchak is making up for lost time with players by planning away. He has a schedule ready if a new labor deal is reached in time to allow for organized team activities in June. He's consulted with assistants in devising his first training camp. His coordinators have the offensive and defensive playbooks ready, and he even has coaches preparing game plans for the Titans' first two opponents of 2011. And Munchak believes the notion his Titans are in trouble due to him being the last head coach hired is overblown. He said Wednesday all NFL teams are at a disadvantage right now.

Aug 11, 2014 5:55 PM

Titans rookie quarterback Jake Locker has been studying the team's playbook and regularly throwing to receivers during the NFL lockout. The No. 8 overall draft pick received his playbook during the small window when the lockout was lifted on April 29. He plans to workout in Nashville this summer, even if the lockout remains in place. "This is something I have been thinking about and dreaming about for such a long time, and now to have the opportunity to compete in the NFL and get to play that dream out is something I am really looking forward to," Locker told The Tennessean. "My plan is to stay in shape and keep my arm in shape so when we do finally have team workouts I won't be coming in out of shape trying to catch up. I want to hit the ground running and be ready to go."

Simms Acquitted In Drugged-Driving Case

Sep 14, 2014 6:47 AM

Titans backup quarterback Chris Simms was acquitted Wednesday of driving while high on marijuana. "I'm really just happy it's all over with," Simms said as he left a Manhattan courthouse with his wife, Danielle. "I love the NYPD, and I'm mad that this happened." Simms was arrested around 1 a.m. July 1 at a police sobriety checkpoint in downtown Manhattan. He was heading home to New Jersey after going out to dinner with his wife and two friends. A police officer told jurors that Simms made a turn just before the checkpoint, his Mercedes-Benz SUV reeked of marijuana and Simms himself was "like a zombie." Slurring his words, Simms said there wasn't any marijuana in the car because "he smoked it all," Officer Francisco Acosta testified. Simms denied the allegations, and he said the officer misunderstood his remark. "The comment I made to the officer is that there was someone in the car who smoked marijuana," Simms, who didn't testify at his trial, said after it ended. With his then-pregnant wife in the car, "I said, 'You"re way off-base. I'm 30 years old, and I already have a 4-year-old at home.'"

Cop: Simms Was So Stoned He Was 'Like A Zombie'

Nov 17, 2014 2:20 AM

Chris Simms was so stoned that the Titans quarterback was "like a zombie," the cop who arrested him at a traffic stop told jurors on Monday. Simms, 30, reeked of marijuana and refused to take a blood test after the July 1 stop, Police Officer Francisco Acosta said. "He was out of it, like a zombie," Acosta told jurors. "He was very, very unsteady on his feet." Defense lawyer Harvey Steinberg said the cop got it all wrong and that the football player said his friends had been smoking. Simms was with his pregnant wife and two friends on the way home to New Jersey from a party and dinner when he was busted in a Mercedes-Benz SUV.

Titans Planning Free-Agent Spree

Oct 15, 2014 11:49 PM

The Titans will turn their attention towards free agency after working to plug holes in their roster during this past weekend's NFL Draft. However, Tennessee will have to wait until the lockout is resolved and free agency actually kicks off. "We still have some places we can add some depth, some holes we would like to fill, but obviously the draft took care of a lot of those issues for us," Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt said. "I think a veteran quarterback. ... We might even add some interior defensive line — we might look at a veteran there. Maybe a safety. There are some other positions we will look at ... and tight end."
