Titans Trying To Keep Players Away?

Sep 18, 2014 4:29 AM

It appears as though the Titans may be trying to keep players away from the team's facilities. Players were met by what they called "excessive" security Thursday when they arrived at the Titans practice facility when they attempted to report under a federal judge's ruling to lift the NFL lockout. Two armed off-duty police officers in uniform joined the Titans director of security, Steve Berk, at the only open side gate to the facility Thursday. "It's a little excessive," right guard Jake Scott, the Titans' players representative, said of the security presence. "I guess they don't want us in, and they don't want what would appear to meet a judge's orders. "But there's not a lot we can do as players except show up and ask and get sent away. We can't force our way in the building. We're not going to do that. We're going to show up, ask and be told no."

Former TCU quarterback Andy Dalton is generating a lot of draft interest and the Titans are among the clubs taking a look at him. Tennessee holds the eighth overall pick in the first round of Thursday night's NFL Draft. Several league sources said the Titans are high on Dalton and consider him to be an elite prospect who carries less of the varied risk of other quarterbacks in this draft.

Munchak: Young Definitely Done With Titans

Sep 12, 2014 3:44 PM

New Titans coach Mike Munchak says that quarterback Vince Young is done with the team. Running back Chris Johnson surmised earlier this month that a new coach meant Young had a chance to remain with the franchise. "That was a decision made months ago, and nothing that is going to happen personnel-wise, or how the draft goes, is going to change that," Munchak told the Tennessean. "It wasn't just a Jeff Fisher decision -- I think people kind of have that feeling because it happened back then, we could change our decision."

Johnson Would Take Newton With Titans' First Pick

Jul 9, 2014 7:11 AM

The Titans are assessing the options for their first-round draft pick, but running back Chris Johnson knows who he'd take at No. 8. "Just from watching college football a little bit this year, I am a big Cam Newton fan," Johnson told WGFX-AM in Nashville on Thursday, according to the Tennessean. "We don't have Vince (Young) no more, so I feel like another guy like Vince could come in and make plays."

Lockout Is Especially Hard On New Coaches

Oct 14, 2014 9:42 PM

The NFL's current lockout makes it extremely hard to be the new coach of a team. The closest Tennessee's Mike Munchak can get to his players is watching them on film. The Titans went through the league's most recent coaching change. "At least I don't have that learning curve," said Munchak, who has worked in the organization for years and knows the players. "I've watched a lot more defensive tape than I've ever watched."

Stafon Johnson Running At Full Speed

Jul 30, 2014 2:42 AM

Titans running back Stafon Johnson has run at full speed for the first time since August, when a disastrous spate of injuries ended his rookie season. Johnson made a third-quarter catch during Tennessee's Aug. 14 preseason opener, but Seattle defensive back Kam Chancellor hit him high and spun him around, forcing the running back to land on his right leg. The visual was so gruesome that then-Titans coach Jeff Fisher believed the rookie's shoe simply had come off and was being held on by some loose tape. In fact, Johnson wound up with a dislocated right ankle, broken fibula and high ankle sprain. "I feel awesome, and I feel great about the opportunity in front of me," said Johnson, who isn't 100 percent yet but is ahead of schedule in his recovery. "I still have some work to do. But I'm really anxious to get back there and prove what I can do once again. I think I proved myself a little bit last year, and now I am just going to go for it and try and finish out a season."
