George Blanda Dies At 83

George Blanda died on Monday at the age of 83. Blanda retired one month shy of his 49th birthday before the 1976 season, playing longer than anyone else in professional football history. He spent 10 seasons with the Chicago Bears, part of one with the Baltimore Colts, seven with the Houston Oilers and his final nine with the Raiders.

Owner Gives Titans T-Shirts With Super Bowl Goal

On Saturday night last week, players arrived in their rooms at the team hotel to find a T-shirt and a handwritten note from Titans' owner Bud Adams. On the front of the shirt was "Just Believe.'' On the back was a picture of Cowboys Stadium, site of Super Bowl XLV. "It was a nice touch,'' fullback Ahmard Hall said. "We definitely want to win one for Bud. He started this whole thing a long, long time ago. It would be great to do that for him this year. ? It's great to know we have an owner who believes in us.'' Players said Adams, who founded the franchise 51 years ago, has been more visible in recent years.

Titans quarterback Vince Young says he didn't want Reggie Bush's Heisman Trophy. The Heisman Trust decided Wednesday to vacate the 2005 award after Reggie Bush forfeited it Tuesday. Young finished second to Bush in the Heisman voting that year. "Why would I want it?" he asked.

Pro Bowler Mawae Opts To Retire

The president of the NFL Players Association, Kevin Mawae, has decided being with family was more important than his passion to keep playing in the league. Mawae officially announced his retirement on Friday. He has spent 16 seasons in the NFL and has been named to eight Pro Bowls. "My brother reminded me I have nothing to prove nor do I have anything to lose in this decision," Mawae said. "I've done everything an NFL player can want to do except winning a championship. With that, I walk away from the NFL on my own terms and with the only regret that of not being a Super Bowl champion."
