Fisher Thinks Johnson, Titans Can Agree To Deal

Jul 3, 2014 11:01 PM

Titans coach Jeff Fisher believes that the team can come to an agreement with running back Chris Johnson. Johnson is looking for a new contract. "I would assume that there will probably be a sit-down meeting between both sides between now and then and we'll see what happens," Fisher said. "He invited me to participate in his football camp. I told him I'd like him to participate in mine." Johnson earned $7.27 million through the first two years of the deal he signed as the 24th pick in the 2008 draft. "I think it makes sense to get everybody together and I think that's what we'll push for," Fisher said. "There is no purpose, no set agenda right now. But it would make sense to get together and try to sort things out. ... We clearly have an issue and we're going to try to get it resolved."

Titans Won't Budge, But Johnson Will Keep Trying

Aug 1, 2014 1:37 AM

The Titans are unlikely to budge regarding Chris Johnson's request for a new contract, but that doesn't mean the running back will stop trying. Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post writes that, "I'm sure his agent, Joel Segal, will keep sending them new ideas and proposals to get them to see his point of view." Lombardi continues to point out that the "Collective Bargaining Agreement does not favor" Johnson's holdout.

Titans GM Says New Deal Is Unlikely For Johnson

Jul 4, 2014 6:35 AM

Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt says that running back Chris Johnson isn't likely to get the new contract he covets. Tennessee wrapped up their sixth voluntary practice on Wednesday without Johnson in attendance. "Given the circumstances, I don't think there's the likelihood anything is going to happen," Reinfeldt told the Tennessean. "You're asking me definitely if he's not going to get (a new contract). I'm not making any definitive statements. I just think he's a pro, and we expect him to honor his contract. Chris has always been a pro, and we expect that to continue." Johnson is entering the third year of a five-year, $12 million contract that he signed as a rookie. He rushed for 2,006 yards last season.

Titans Shuffle Players On Offensive Line

Oct 2, 2014 9:34 AM

The Titans are shuffling players along their offensive line, which produced a 2,000-yard rusher and allowed just 15 sacks in 2009. Eugene Amano is moving from left guard to center, while Leroy Harris has moved to left guard and the chance of being a full-time starter. Longtime center Kevin Mawae hasn't been re-signed by the team. "It's a real smooth transition," coach Jeff Fisher said Wednesday of the changes. "I would like to think they can play for a number of years together."

Faulk Tells Chris Johnson To Continue Holding Out

Oct 16, 2014 2:34 PM

Marshall Faulk believes that Titans running back Chris Johnson is doing the right thing by holding out for a new contract. "Without a doubt, if more money is what he wants, he has to hold out," Faulk, who is now an NFL Network analyst, told the Tennessean. "You have to know who you are dealing with. The Titans aren't known for caving in or paying, it doesn't matter who you are. In my opinion, there is no way he can come in and play under the current contract." Johnson is expected to be absent when the Titans take part in their fifth practice of the offseason Tuesday.

Teammate: Chris Johnson Looks Thicker, Stronger

Oct 16, 2014 2:34 PM

Titans wide receiver Nate Washington held a football camp in Ohio last week that was attended by teammate Chris Johnson. Johnson, who is looking for a new contract, has been working out in Florida instead of with the Titans during their voluntary workouts in Nashville. "I asked him if he put on a little weight ? no gut, no, no ? I'm talking thicker, stronger looking," Washington said of Johnson. "He assured me, 'Big bro, I am working.' And I said you don't have to tell me that, I know. He looks great, really." Washington said he talks to Johnson "every other day." "Chris loves football. That is first and foremost," he said. "But this is our job, and yes we get paid a lot, but when we're done we're done. What he is doing right now is good for him. It is not a selfish thing; it is an understanding of the business side. "I know he is looking forward to getting back and we are all confident Chris will make the right decision. And when he is ready to come back we are going to welcome him back with open arms."

Titans On Verge Of Adding Former GM Candidate To Front Office

Nov 18, 2014 1:56 AM

The Titans considered hiring Ruston Webster as their general manager back in 2007, when Mike Reinfeldt landed the job. Now the team is in on the verge of adding Webster to the front office, and he would be an impressive addition. The Titans have been in discussions with the Seahawks VP of Player Personnel about joining the organization, and there are indications are Webster could be hired in the near future. Webster recently completed his fourth season as VP of Player Personnel in Seattle, but he also served as interim general manager. He spent 18 seasons with the Buccaneers before joining the Seahawks, where he worked in both pro and college personnel.

Vince Young Downplays Significance Of Agent Switch

Jul 4, 2014 8:43 PM

Vince Young said his recent switch of agents had nothing to do with wanting a new contract immediately or a deteriorating relationship. The move, he said, was about his future. Young dropped Major Adams in favor of a higher profile agent in Tom Condon, whose roster includes Peyton and Eli Manning. "(Adams) understands and he is still my family,'' Young said after Thursday's minicamp practice at Baptist Sports Park. "There's no flaws in our relationship or nothing like that. He basically guided me and respected my decision and things like that. ? It was for me to make a decision for my future. I just thought it was the best thing for me to do.''
