Colin Kaepernick: Let's Make America Great For The First Time

Sep 27, 2016 7:39 PM

Colin Kaepernick was not impressed by the debate performance of either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.

"To me, it was embarrassing to watch that these are our two candidates," Kaepernick said. "Both are proven liars, and it almost seems like they're trying to debate who is less racist, and at this point, I was talking to one of my friends who goes, ‘You have to pick the lesser of two evils, but in the end it's still evil.'"

Kaepernick circled back to Trump's campaign slogan of 'Make America Great Again'.

"That's a very ignorant statement, that if you don't agree with what's going on here, that if you want justice and liberty and freedom for all, that you should leave the country," Kaepernick said. "He always says, 'Make America great again.' Well, America has never been great for people of color and that's something that needs to be addressed. Let's make America great for the first time."

Anthony Davis Again Retires From NFL

Sep 26, 2016 8:44 PM

Anthony Davis has retired again from the NFL.

Davis sat out last year in part because of concerns over a concussion before deciding to return to the Niners this summer. He suffered another concussion in practice on Sept. 15 and has not played since.

Davis was slated to start at right guard, but missed the final practice before the season opener for non-injury reasons.

Davis was one of the NFL's best right tackles during the 49ers' run of three straight NFC Championship Games.

Market Research Poll: Colin Kaepernick Is Most Disliked Player In NFL

Sep 23, 2016 7:43 AM

Colin Kaepernick is the most disliked player in the NFL, according to a recent poll by E-Poll Marketing Research, which asked 1,100 people whose demographics were representative of the general population.

The poll revealed that Kaepernick was "disliked a lot" by 29 percent of those polled, more than any of the more than 350 players asked about in the survey.

After Kaepernick, the most disliked players were as follows: Jameis Winston (22 percent), Ndamukong Suh (21 percent), Tom Brady (13 percent) and Ben Roethlisberger (10 percent).

The last time the poll was taken, in August 2014, Kaepernick was only "disliked a lot" by 6 percent of the population.

While results of the poll show Kaepernick being more disliked by the general population, much of that has to do with the fact that African-Americans only make up 15 percent of the U.S. population. Kaepernick hasn't been standing during the national anthem to show his displeasure with the treatment of African-Americans by police officers.

Among African-Americans, Kaepernick has never been more popular. The poll shows 42 percent of African-Americans now say they like the 49ers quarterback "a lot," while only 2 percent dislike him "a lot."

49ers Sticking With Blaine Gabbert At QB As Kaepernick Regains Weight

Sep 20, 2016 12:53 PM

Chip Kelly will stick with Blaine Gabbert as starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers for now.

"He's our starter and I’ve got a lot of confidence in Blaine," Kelly said. "So we're not thinking or talking about not having Blaine in there. It's about everybody on offense playing better right now."

Gabbert was the obvious choice to begin the season as the 49ers' starter as Colin Kaepernick began to work his way back from multiple offseason surgeries.

Gabbert finished 17-of-36 for 234 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 2.

While Kelly doesn't know Kaepernick's exact weight, he's indicated that Kaepernick isn't yet back to where he used to be, though he's making progress.

"It's coming back up and I think he's doing a good job in the weight room, but it's not something that’s going to happen overnight," Kelly said. "You just don't go from where he was to, I think his ideal playing weight when you ask Kaep is about 225. He's not going to get to 225 in a week. If you are, it's not going to be a good 225. You know, it's about building himself back up and getting himself kind of where he feels, and you can see kind of where he's comfortable in terms of being able to play. It's something that he's working extremely hard at.

"He's working extremely hard on that right now and we'll continue to see how he goes and how he develops.”

Anthony Davis Not Planning To Retire Again

Sep 10, 2016 6:17 PM

Anthony Davis is not planning on retiring again despite a report that surfaced on Saturday.

Davis is, however, listed as questionable for the 49ers’ opener on Monday night against the Rams, for reasons the 49ers have only said are “not injury related.” Davis did not practice with the team today.

Davis was the San Francisco 49ers' first round pick in 2010 and retired following the 2014 season.

Davis projects as the 49ers' starting right guard if he plays.

Doug Baldwin Admits Sunday Being Sept. 11 Affects Decision To Protest

Sep 8, 2016 5:07 PM

Doug Baldwin hasn't decided whether or not he'll join Colin Kaepernick and others, including teammate Jeremy Lane, in some sort of protest related to the national anthem on Sunday.

Baldwin is "thinking things through" and is aware that Sunday is Sept. 11, the 15th anniversary of the attacks on New York and Washington D.C.

"Absolutely. I think that anybody should be thinking about that," Baldwin said. "Even if it wasn't September 11, the point of the protest is to get people to think. I think it's very ironic that 15 years ago, on September 11, it was one of the most devastating times in U.S. history, but after that day we were probably the most unified we've ever been.

"Today, you struggle to see the unity and it's very ironic to me that this day is coming up. It's going to be a special day, a very significant day, but at the same time I'm looking forward to making better changes in our country."

Roger Goodell: We Believe Very Strongly In Patriotism In The NFL

Sep 7, 2016 8:47 PM

Roger Goodell commented on Colin Kaepernick and his decision to protest the United States' treatment of minorities during the national anthem before games.

Goodell said in an email Wednesday: "I don't necessarily agree with what he is doing."

"I support our players when they want to see change in society, and we don't live in a perfect society," Goodell added. "On the other hand, we believe very strongly in patriotism in the NFL. I personally believe very strongly in that."

Goodell's late father, Charles Goodell, was a U.S. senator.

"We have to choose respectful ways of doing that so that we can achieve the outcomes we ultimately want and do it with the values and ideals that make our country great," said Goodell.

"I think it's important to have respect for our country, for our flag, for the people who make our country better; for law enforcement; and for our military who are out fighting for our freedoms and our ideals."

Before Kaepernick sat out the anthem a month ago, his jerseys were hardly selling at all.

Colin Kaepernick Reached Out To Thank Jeremy Lane For Support

Sep 6, 2016 8:27 AM

Jeremy Lane heard from Colin Kaepernick last week after Lane sat during the national anthem prior to the team's fourth preseason game.

"He reached out to me and just told me thank you, standing behind me," Lane said.

Lane followed suit less than a week after Kaepernick first sat in protest of American racial injustice and minority oppression. Lane plans to continue to sit going forward, but he doesn't know if any of his Seattle Seahawks teammates will join him.

"I don't know. I don't want to put any pressure on anyone. I'm doing it for me," he said.

Bruce Miller Released By 49ers Following Assault Arrest

Sep 6, 2016 8:41 AM

Bruce Miller has been released by the San Francisco 49ers hours after he was arrested on an assault charge.

Miller was arrested at 11:25 am PT Monday and taken to San Francisco County Jail. He is being held on $178,000 bond and being charged with assault with a deadly weapon (not a firearm), two counts of criminal threats, battery and elder abuse.

Miller tried to enter a hotel room occupied by an elderly couple. The couple's 29-year-old son, staying in the next room, then told Miller he was at the wrong room. Miller, who was intoxicated at the time, attacked the son and his 70-year-old father, who came to his son's defense, police said.

The father was punched by Miller and both men were taken to the hospital for their injuries, police said.

Miller was entering his sixth season with the team and represented the tight ends on the team's leadership council, which includes a player from every position.

Miller was also arrested in March 2015 in Santa Clara on suspicion of spousal battery after his then-fiancée accused him of shoving her and smashing her cellphone during an argument.
