Anthony Davis Applies For Reinstatement To NFL

Feb 27, 2016 1:04 PM

Anthony Davis has applied for reinstatement to the NFL.

Davis retired last June from the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers own the rights to Davis and he does intend to play for them again.

"I've had some contact with him, but I have no idea what his status is at this point," said Trent Baalke.

Davis would sure up the right side of the 49ers' offensive line.

Colin Kaepernick Seeks Trade From 49ers

Feb 26, 2016 6:12 PM

The agents of Colin Kaepernick have requested permission from the San Francisco 49ers to seek a trade.

The report runs counter to what Chip Kelly told reporters on Thursday.

"He wants to be here," Kelly told reporters. "He's never expressed to me that he didn't want to be here. He expressed to me that he's excited about getting healthy and getting going. And we're excited about him getting healthy and getting going."

On April 1st, Kaepernick's $11.9 million base salary for 2016 becomes guaranteed.

Jed York and Trent Baalke appeared to purposely alienate Kaepernick midway through the 2015 season after a 2-6 start.

"He's seemed excited every time I've talked to him," Kelly said. "I've also learned to not believe everything that's on the Internet.

"There's a reason he was on IR. I mean, there was something wrong with him."

Chip Kelly Excited About Colin Kaepernick

Feb 25, 2016 12:59 PM

Chip Kelly was asked about whether Colin Kaepernick will be his quarterback with the San Francisco 49ers.

Kelly is accustomed to getting asked that question as he received it multiple times during a tour of military bases last week in Europe, Africa and Afghanistan.

“Yeah, it was interesting, they all want to know about Kap,” Kelly said Thursday with a laugh. “I told them the same thing I told you: we’re getting ready to work with him on April 4th, so we’re excited.”

The 49ers confirmed this week that they're going to keep Kaepernick at least through his April 1st guarantee date of $11.9 million.

“He wants to be here. He’s never expressed to me that he didn’t want to be here,” Kelly said. “He expressed to me that he’s excited about getting healthy and getting going. And we’re excited about him getting healthy and getting going.”

Kaepernick underwent multiple surgeries since he last played.

49ers To Keep Colin Kaepernick At Least Through April 1st

Feb 25, 2016 12:25 PM

The San Francisco 49ers will keep Colin Kaepernick on their roster on April 1st when his $11.9 million base salary for 2016 becomes fully guaranteed.

"I think the good thing is we've got two guys that have gone into games who've proven they can play, and Colin's done some awful good things through his career, won some big games for the San Francisco 49ers and [we] expect him to come back," Trent Baalke said at his podium availability.

"The main focus right now is health, getting him healthy. He's done a good job with his rehab. Talking to the medical staff, that seems to be going very well, and [we] just look forward to getting him back and getting him working with this coaching staff."

Kaepernick, 28, is recovering from three surgeries (left shoulder, right thumb, left knee).

Kaepernick will compete for the starting quarterback job with Blaine Gabbert.

Garrett Celek, 49ers Close To Long-Term Deal

Feb 17, 2016 9:50 PM

Garrett Celek and the San Francisco 49ers are close to a long-term deal.

Celek had 19 receptions for 186 yards and three touchdowns in 2015.

With last season's trade of veteran tight end Vernon Davis, fifth-year pro Garrett Celek should have a better opportunity at playing time this coming season.

Jarryd Hayne Wants To Continue Pursuing NFL Career

Feb 11, 2016 1:12 PM

Jarryd Hayne would like to continue pursuing a career in the NFL.

Hayne was one of the best players in the National Rugby League and tried to make the transition to American football with the San Francisco 49ers.

"I like being out wide like a wide receiver. Running back's also very enjoyable as well," he said, via ESPN.com. "I think for me, it's just about being versatile and playing anywhere they put me."

Hayne doesn't want to quit the NFL without scoring a touchdown.

"I got close twice this year. I was devastated," he said.

Hayne added: "It was actually a route that I ran that if I had run it a bit different, I would've scored against Detroit. I come close, and then obviously that one against the Giants as well.

"Definitely next year, it has to be done. It has to be done."

Hayne ran the ball 17 times for 52 yards last season, with a long of 11. He also returned eight punts for 76 yards.

Marshall Wants Jets To Re-Sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, Not Pursue Kap

Feb 4, 2016 11:50 AM

Brandon Marshall would prefer the New York Jets to re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick rather than pursue Colin Kaepernick.

"I don't want Kaepernick," Marshall told ESPN's First Take on Wednesday morning. "I think he's good. My guy's Fitz. It's nothing against Kaepernick, but what I'm saying is that I have my quarterbacks and I'm good."

Kaepernick would like to move on from the San Francisco 49ers and the Jets are reportedly his preferred destination.

"The second half of Ryan Fitzpatrick's career is going to be amazing," Marshall said, "because he's with his guy Chan Gailey and he really owns this offense. And that's what you want out of the quarterback position."

Colin Kaepernick Prefers Move To Jets

Feb 3, 2016 1:50 PM

Colin Kaepernick would like to move on from the San Francisco 49ers and his preferred team are the New York Jets.

Kaepernick was benched midway through last season by the 49ers and the team hired Chip Kelly this offseason.

The Jets are intrigued by Kaepernick's interest but are still in the early stages of their offseason planning and are afraid of tampering.

The Jets are interested in re-signing Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Kaepernick would have to be traded to the Jets or sign there if he's released.

Jed York declared last week that there’s “no question” in his mind that Kaepernick can re-gain his job as the starter.

"I've always had a very, very high opinion of Kap,” York said. “Kap's a great kid. He's done a lot of great things for us. Again, this is a fresh start for everybody."

Jets' offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has had success with dual-threat quarterbacks.
