Reid Helped Eagles Secure Chip Kelly

Oct 31, 2014 6:57 AM

Andy Reid helped the Philadelphia Eagles secure a deal with Chip Kelly to become their next head coach.

Reid reached out to Kelly to recommend the franchise.

"One person I want to thank, in terms of advice in this whole thing, is Andy Reid," said Kelly. "And the fact that Andy reached out to me and told me about his experience here just told me what this organization is all about. There's not a classier guy. When Andy texted me (Wednesday) when I accepted the job, I told him I had really, really, really big shoes to fill. And in typical Andy fashion he said, 'Just be yourself and you'll be fine.' So I publically just want to thank Andy, because that really spoke to me about what this organization is all about."

NFL On Cycle Of Hiring Offensive-Minded, White Head Coaches

Oct 31, 2014 3:45 PM

The NFL appears to be in a cycle where franchises are looking for offensive head coaches. They have also been uniformly white men this offseason.

The NFL had eight head coach openings this offseason and all six of the hires have been by white men lauded for their ability to coach on offense.

Andy Reid (Chiefs), Doug Marrone (Bills), Rob Chudzinski (Browns), Mike McCoy (Chargers), Marc Trestman (Bears) and Chip Kelly (Eagles) have all been hired.

The favorites for the final two positions are Bruce Arians for the Cardinals and Greg Roman for the Jaguars.

All of the general manager hires have also been white men.

The NFL requires the interview of at least one minority candidate for every head coach and GM position.

Gus Bradley To Interview With Eagles

Oct 31, 2014 4:25 PM

Gus Bradley will interview with the Philadelphia Eagles for their head coaching vacancy on Saturday, according to a source.

Bradley is currently the defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seahawks allowed 15.3 points per game this season.

Bradley has emerged as a favorite among fans in Philadelphia based mainly on an old video clip in which he goes off on the Seahawks' defense during a game.

"Well, it's flattering. And I know people talk about our entire focus is on Atlanta and it really is," Bradley said after Thursday's practice. "It's so important to us. We worked so hard to get to this point and our whole message to the team is to keep raising the bar and getting better and better every week. They're talking that and we're talking that, so it's easy to stay focused on it. It's flattering as you've all heard before. But our entire focus is on Atlanta and trying to get one step closer."
