Chip Kelly Believes Eagles Need To Play Faster

Sep 2, 2014 6:31 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles ran 53 plays on their way to 322 yards and 21 first downs in the first half in Week 1.

The Eagles played as fast as any team in NFL history, but Chip Kelly believes they can play faster.

“I felt like it was slow,” Kelly said Tuesday.

“I’m not joking,” Kelly said. “We need to do a better job. We left the ball on the ground too much. We didn’t get the ball to the officials. We could have sped things up from a process in between plays. That’s something we need to work on.”

Eagles Win Kelly's Debut 33-27 Over Redskins (+8.4 TC, +16 TRC)

May 25, 2014 9:07 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Redskins by a final score of 33-27 in Chip Kelly's NFL debut. The final score was deceiving as the Eagles had a 33-7 lead late into the third quarter as they imposed their will upon Washington by playing at a pace the NFL has never seen before.

The Eagles had a +8.4 advantage in The Trench Counter, averaging 0.9 more yards per pass and 1.3 more yards per rush. The Redskins ran 77 total plays and had a +16 in Total Rushes/Completions.

Michael Vick went 15-fo-25 for 203 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing nine times for 54 yards and a touchdown. LeSean McCoy rushed 31 times for 184 yards and a touchdown while DeSean Jackson caught seven balls for 104 yards and a touchdown.

Robert Griffin III went 30-for-49 for 329 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in his first game back from major knee surgery. Griffin was hesitant in the first half and the Redskins' offense struggled to sustain drives, or even not turn the ball over.

Alfred Morris had 12 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown, but fumbled on the Redskins' first series and muffed a pitch from Griffin that led to an Eagles' safety.
